Empire Domination Map (FB) & Factions?

I've been keeping an eye on the Empire Domination Map on PS2's Facebook app and I've been wondering if a certain faction dominates in a certain area if that might affect my play options.

I'm a PS/2 noob and I'm kinda leaning towards Terran Republic but I'm in West Coast/NA and looking at this domination map: (TR Red, Vanu Purp, NC Blue, Light Blue = unaffiliated)

While TR seems to have the most territory overall it looks like Vanu and NC are dominating in the West Coast and most of NA.

I don't know exactly how the servers for PS2 will work but if I would assume I would want to play with fellow NA/West Coasters for the least lag.

So, my question is would picking TR possibly limit my options for low ping matches and also put me at a disadvantage due to possible lack of a strong number of TR players in the West Coast?

I have been asking myself the same question, but in Europe.
At the origin, I was gonna play VS, but it seems NC are generally underpopulated in Europe (exept, surpisingly, in France). So I think, if beta confirms that i like the faction, that I will play NC to "help the cause" and prevent a group rape on smurfs...

Don't worry about it my friend. I am in the middle of TR terf in the DC area and I am VS. I like to think of myself as an infiltrator sneaking behind their line to gather data.

I think the facebook app is not a good representation of making to make any conclusions.

That map doesn't mean much. Not all planning on playing have used that app and political/gov't map does not mean anything in-game.

Yeah, of course I didn't figure that the Empire map on the FB map was representative of all players but it seems like it might give a slight indication of what empires are likely to be the most popular in what regions.

I guess what I'm still wondering is how the servers work. Are we broken down by region? NA, Europe, Asia, etc.? I assume they are but I'm not sure exactly how PS/PS2 works in that regard.

Are there any interactions between the servers? Can NA players fight battles against players in Europe for example? Do the goings on in one server have any overall effect on other servers or will the metagame's effects/bonuses be relegated to regional servers only?
