Im pretty sure planetside is the only game ever to have a useful pure scout. Since the squad shares exp among itself a scout can be useful by spotting targets and helping his team avoid traps resulting in more kills and more exp for the scout. I think that the dev team did a good job with making sure that you ban be anything you want in the game by using the squad exp share system.

Why point out mines when you can clear them? I'd think that part of the scout's duty. Clear mines, disable spitfire turrets, and ensure that the rest of your allies have an untrapped approach into an area where the enemy's presence is known to the entire advancing army.

I intend to be a scout sometimes, and I really have never wanted to be a scout in any other game. But in Planetside it looks like the scout will have a key role. Taking out turrents? Maybe not, but probabaly disabling them with a jammer grenade so one of your buddies can take it out.
I think it will be difficult to be a very good scout. You cannot be noticed, you have to know where to go, how to follow the enemy, ect. I'm sure there will be a few scouts out there that will be very good.

Here is a point, while the turret is dissabled by the jammer, why not take out your knife and hack it up real good? Besides, we're talking deployable turrets, not base turrets. I'm sure spit-fires can be taken out by a grenade or 2.
