I have to say though... They could have went in a much better direction with the trailer. |

Typically Brits or Americans get upset by swearing. Cops can arrest you if you swear in public in the UK. Hilarious. |

A few years ago I saw this cool game looking over my brothers shoulder.
He had a PS1 Beta key from fileplanet. I got myself a key pronto. Seeing the Sturmgrenadiers recruitment video defined this game for me, but alas they were on the US servers. Sony have the cinematic version. Create the gameplay equivalent. Scale it up slowly from soliders, to squads, platoons, empires. Really show off how big the game is. That last scene when the Vanu assault force rises. Record that, with real players. That's what the game is. |

I think where all the butthurt is coming from is that these people don't distinguish between cinematic trailers and gameplay trailers, both of which have ultimately different purposes. The PS2 trailer is cinematic, a way to quickly draw in audiences to the product. At this point, the audience does not care for how exactly a tank handles or how exactly long a Light Assault class can jetpack for before running out of fuel. The audience just wants to be quickly introduced to the basics while being entertained.
The point of a gameplay trailer, as seen by the very early PS2 trailers (Gamescon), is to show off specific gameplay typically using in-game models and engine. That is more for the dedicated audience already introduced to the game. No need for flashy trailers when people are already drawn to the game. Gamescon trailer was targetted to vets who were already following PS2 development. Take LoL for example. This is a rendered trailer, but you can clearly see it is a cinematic trailer used much like the PS2 trailer. Even the commentator, the lead developer for the LoL itself, makes fun of the trailer for being factually incorrect. But no one is frothing at the teeth over "misrepresentation."
