Yep, iirc he was tail gunner in flying fortresses ..... I think

I take it back ....

a real hero, he had to fight the US authorities to go to the action and when he did it was a pilot in liberators and as a commanders ....... I recall he remained in the US Air reserve for many years after the war..

Aslo --- David Niven .... took part in the Normandy operation as liaison between US and British forces ... I don't reall a Normaldy film tho, he did do some 'propaganda' type films during the war

Niven starred in the Powell and Pressburger epic A Matter of Life and Death which although being a '46 film and having not a great deal to do with the war as such is worth a watch by anyone who likes their oldies.
