You can also always spawn your Lib behind the lines of battle (like at a rearward base) and pick up your passenger outside of THAT base, relatively safe from random sniper fire, and whatnot.
Really it makes sense. Airfields SHOULD be removed from the front lines of a conflict, at least a little bit, anyways, lest your planes be destroyed on the ground. shooting a potential bombardier/gunner, or the plane itself, as it is loaded, is the equivalent of that. |

if you're taking off from a base under fire, that's a risk you're taking. 1 base back is all you need... it'll take you a whole 2 minutes to get up to the front, and you'll be better positioned not having the enemy seen you take off, allowing you a potential first strike before they even know you're there (maybe) |
