Bring back bombs on the liberator please..

Just the other night my friend and I were playing for several hours and wishing we could have the liberator with bombs back. Why? Because one of the best things about the old planetside was that you could turn the coarse of a battle with several good bombing runs. As of late I see very few people using the liberator, and I think this is the reason. I also think the original liberator was much more of a fighter bomber, and was more maneuverable than the current lib. So if the devs are listening, bring back bombs, both cluster and anti-vehicle, and also make the lib a bit more maneuverable and a little faster. I think it would make people feel like they have contributed to the battle than they can currently. Please discuss...

Im afraid this is Planetside 2. This is NOT Planetside 1 so no bombs for the lib. Another disapointing feature, i loved libbing and using the vulture too. Your right about the bombing runs, i remember my outfit lib event where we had 16 libs flying in formation bombing the crap outta bases. Awesome fun.
They did say bombs might make it back in tho someday ... but theyve said alot of things lol.

PS1 bombs were balanced by their slow fall speed, they could be avoided with situational awareness.
PS2 uses fast shells, they're not possible to dodge so they get nerfed to uselessness.

Just another bad design choice >.<

Re: Bring back bombs on the liberator please..

PS1 bombs (particularly on the Vulture, it being a divebomber supposedly) dropped a bit too slow and the design was a tad clumsy on the Vulture. The Liberator worked very well though. The difference with PS2, having the amount of control per projectile is rather massive though and yeah, before it'd three-shot tanks. That was just too easy.

PS1 bombing seems to have been based on World War II bombers. The Liberator was clearly inspired by a Lancaster and Stratofortress, very suited to bombard stationary targets, do carpet bombing runs with, etc.

The Vulture was supposed to work more akin to a Stuka (even if it is the Reaver that actually worked that way in practice, if it wasn't imitating a Comanche helicopter and hovering). The idea behind the Vulture was that you'd dive in, the pilot would soften the target, pull up, then the gunner would drop bombs and if that didn't finish the target, the rear seat gunner should finish it off. In practice, the three moves didn't line up. The pilot would pull up late, the bomber would have no time to line up their target (let alone see it or time the shot) and the bombs would still drop too slow to hit the moving target, which only had to move a little bit sideways to dodge the bombs. The rear gunner would usualy have to instable a shot as the pilot would not be concerned with lining the target up for the rear gunner (rear gunner was treated purely as AA defense).

PS2 bombing seems to have been based on the AC-130: directed cannon and machine gun fire. Works quite well, too well perhaps depending on the strength of the bombs.

Making a clear distinction between Liberator niches can definitely work though. Hell, it could even have a mode where it would drop a minefield (like that C&C Generals and C&C3 minefield you could call in by air drop) or have other types of weaponry.

I like the way the Lib works. I do believe it is a bit under powered though for a fairly pricey aircraft that requires 3 people to properly fly.

Easiest solution (in my opinion) would be to make it so that Libs are safe skyguards at altitudes of 900+. Make it so ESF's have to take them down.

ALso, make it so that view distance while in a lib is higher. Not being able to even see the enemy until you're super low sucks. Maybe have a zoom function that gives a graphical overlay that shows enemy vehicles that have been spotted on your main screen.

I know Higby talked about adding it back into the game as another weapon, but there hasnt been any talk since he mentioned it.
