Video/audio recording

Hi all,
I'm not so much as a new player, though the inbuilt recording is new to me. I was going to test it out later, and I was wondering what exactly it records. More specifically, will it record my steam voice chat as my friends and I talk?

It only records in game sounds. I believe if you use the built-in voice, it will catch it... but if you use out-of-game voice it won't. It doesn't record my Teamspeak channel, so I assume it would be similar.

This could also be a function of microphone settings in game and out.... i'd have to check, but there must be a way not to as my videos over the last week are without boring chatter in the background...
