Progressive siege warfare feels a bit artificial. If I've got a dropship, why do I need to hold the walls?
I'm all for changing up the way capture works, but simply slapping progressive point capture dosen't work for me. I'd prefer it if there were other ways to cap it, but I don't want to be forced to repeat the same set of captures, that's even worse because atleast with majority cap I can choose just which points I do go after. |

That would be something! Sadly the MMO they were planning (i had hopes it'd be an MMOFPS) got turned into a single player. Last edited by Dagron; 2012-06-03 at 03:09 AM. |

Yeah, not to mention that singleplayer was boring as hell. But to follow up on what you were saying, yes, just with domination, capturing a base is boring, no generator, no radar, no type of objective, they really need to make facility specific objectives, because you had APB, which had lots of things to brag about, its customization, its maps, cars, so on and so forth, but the missions in that game were repetitive, it failed because it was boring since you're just driving around, pressing F and watching as your character do some broken animation. And in Planetside 2 you're just running around from control point to control point, with your squad and than just encountering the enemy, no sense of territory, just big mess. But what we saw in GDC was looked so much fun, as Higby and his team pushed the enemy back into the main building. I want something like that rather than running from one control point to another.

In Planetside, dropships were used to fly above walls, but since the walls in Planetside 2 are open to everyone, what's the point of the dropship? You can just wander in there. Once again, in big bases like these, you have to feel and see your own territory, but you don't. We'll have to see at E3 when there's more people whether its organized or not.

Whats the points of retreating inside when the attackers are not even going to be pushing into the main building, they'll just be taking nodes that are around that building. As much as I can't wait for the gigantic battles, I think that the base battles will be a letdown. That said, we'll see, if it really is a letdown, I hope the devs fix it in a blink, I have full confidence in them.

Old thread revival!!
I was thinking about this today. More and more we find that we repeat ourselves in the merry go round of base capping and I realised that I don't take in any of the surrounding scenery or use much of the surrounding areas at all. It seems a shame that this is the case when the maps are really rather nice. people moan about the textures but with my poor pc coughing out 30ish FPS at the best of times I'm not too fussed. What I am fussed about is that the fight tends to be base to base to base and the middle ground is simply a highway from one fight to the next. I don't mean this to be a critical post rather something to develop ideas. I see people in in this thread in the past have suggested a revival of the CTF system of base capture (although it's not the best method for every base as some of the locations wouldn't be appropriate). It would be good to see it implemented on some of the more open areas - Hoth for example (sorry Esamir). You could have huge fights with tank lines engaging as one is dropping back to protect the flag carrier etc. I just think it would create a more dynamic environment for fights rather than the current focus around spawn camping the spawn buildings. |

Ok so how about this: instead of a flag, one person has to hold some sort of capturing/hacking device. if that device is destroyed, then you have to go all the way back to the Warp Gate and use your resources to buy another one. as this would be a critical objective, the cost would be extremely high (about 500 resources maybe?) It's just a thought... but if used in the right way, maybe add a little fun aspect to the game? |
