hi guys.
i know there has been a lot of chat about the tunnels that are being added in the game. so here is my 2 pence worth. id like to see tunnel systems like they used in battlefield Vietnam ( the original no the crappy bf2 add on they made) they where fun and had some good choke points but also wider open spaces where the VC stored stuff or used for planning attacks ect. there is a vid i have linked that has a little tunnel fighting in it but hard to find good vid's of such an old game. there where a few tunnel systems in the game and loved every one. they spanned a good portion of some of the maps also so always needed to be watched so you didn't get flanked. what sort of tunnels would you guys like to see?

I've always liked 'tunnels (such as they are) similar to the tech plant ramps and stair battles. They can give the sense of a cleared area behind you and focus the fighting. Good for the flow of the fight.

I know Hamma hates this, but I think bringing back the layout of the Planetside 1 tunnels would be a great fit for this game. They would need some obvious adjustments, but I would love to see 1-3 levels of underground tunnels in between large building. They could move some objectives down there.
This would be a great thing for those who prefer CQC fighting and want objectives that are important, but cannot be easily completed by the general zerg. Something to make highly coordinated groups of players stand out a bit more. Right now they just meld into the zerg and I feel that a lot of people hate that. I only want this once we have multiple ways of taking a base though. Right now there is only 1 way to take a base. Once we have 2-3 different ways to secure a base (or a least flip the base neutral), then we should see some expansions of the tunnels. I don't want to see the tunnels forced on players to take a base. CQC in this game is a major mixed bag. With so many players on a team, it becomes a real grind really fast. We already have the Biolab, we don't need that pain spread to the other facilities either. Adding these tunnels would be amazing for small-squad objectives. Expanded hack-and-hold targets where small squads could help turn the tide of the major battle above ground would be something I think a lot of players would welcome. Some good ol' small-scale, infantry only objectives. It's basically what a lot of people have been crying out for. Gen holds are something that Planetside 2 could really benefit from. Of course they would have to be a bit different than in PS1 to accommodate the new gameplay, but the idea of being able to infiltrate a base and hold a point against the defenders while affecting the larger battle is extremely appealing. We definately need some tunnels, heck they should put some tunnels on some mountains you can use to circumvent the mountain or something. Would be the perfect place for infantry combat, just make it spacious enough for squads of inf.

Tribes: Ascend style gen rooms would be great in PS2 I think. Obviously would need to make them a part of a larger tunnel system, but like the ones in Katabatic with the wide entrances, multiple levels, etc. Lots that could be done, but if they decide to do tunnels I hope they figure a way to prevent rocket spamming that goes on in the open field

Tunnels?! YES! YES! YES!
Something like this, at a tech plant. Each room* has a corresponding building above it to help players find their way around. Little squares are doorways. Stars are stairs up to the surface (or to lvl1 if on the lowest floor). Slashed lines are open areas down to lvl2. "M" are densely packed rooms full of pipes, computers, and other mechanical props. *actually six or so rooms had to be added for flare and to prevent choke points without flanking options. had some great fights in bfv in the tunnels. lots of covering the tunnel while you moved in on the enemy. fire manouver would have to be used a lot in planetside 2 and it would make for some epic battles. the walls around bases atm are getting better as attackers can't use jump pads. had some great fights taking cover behind stuff the people moving up under fire.
the tunnels could give the same effect. used to go under the huge zergs and appear behind to counter ect. the zerg can only cover so many places either way of love to see bfv style tunnels appear in ps2

I wouldn't say all bases need to have tunnels but select installations having them would definitely mix the play style up rather than that feeling of "oh not another tunnel fight.." I think you can have too much of a good thing at times.

I posted this allready in some other thread i forgot, but i would love if the current "sonic the hedgehog(tm)" tunnels would be turned into an accessible network with some additonal rooms.
Spawn room of defending faction should have more direct means of access to the tunnel system and (most of) the generator(s) could be also located there. And in effect you have a more infantry focused facility game play. EDIT: Note, that idea was ment for both AMP Stations and Tech Plants. And possible future base designs. I would love to see the return of basement areas, and doors that can be hacked back to the bases like in PS1. Currently without them the bases just don't feel like real buildings they feel like a Halo map.
I also want to see underground facilities too. Not all crazy with weird crystals, and ziplines like the PS1 version. But stuff like subways, and underground factories/storage depo's. Like a guy said above it would be interesting if you had an alternate route to bypass mountains by going underground. |
