Re: GPU Physics added back in!

I haven't noticed a performance difference in frame rate, but it does seem to cause the occasional CTD that I didn't get without it checked. It did that before if I turned it in with the useroptions file as well.

I'll need to test it more with it checked vs. unchecked but it seems to be related to that.

I might need to try it out since people are saying their FPS isn't diving from it.

Can anyone else confirm that their game crashes after ~20-30 minutes of gameplay with Physix on? I tweaked my useroptions to force physix last month but I kept crashing (I assume that it was related to physix as every time it happened Windows 7 started nagging about low memory). I turned it off in February and I never crashed again (aside from the occasional flashing screen).

I turned it back on (officially, not via the useroptions) yesterday after getting back from my vacation and the same thing started happening again. The only unsupported setting I have is my textures set to ultra (TextureQuality=0) to take some of of strain off of my CPU by forcing my GPU to handle that task.

Can anyone else confirm that their game crashes overtime with Physix enabled?

Edit: I'm using a Geforce 470 with the latest beta drivers, no other programs running in the background, etc. (I fix computers for a living so I know (most of) my shit when it comes to computers :P

I also had crashes with Physix turned on, but not as often as 20-30 min, more like 2-3 hrs. I finally turned it off and that reduced the crashes (still here and there).

As of the last update, I have it on again. I've had a few crashes, but not enough to be sure it's Physix related. GTX-670 with latest beta drivers fwiw.

I question the validity of this statement. Can somebody tell me how increasing the texture quality reduces the CPU usage? AFAIK, the texture quality settings control things such as texture resolution and filtering, which don't really have much to do with CPU usage.

I dunno about CPU usage but im 100% sure that if you have medium - high end system, settings textures to Ultra makes the game much smoother.. Theres more strain on the GPU to downscale textures so setting to ultra helps..

It's some weird phenomenom that's going on. People think they can get more fps by putting more burden on gpu. In reality, if you're cpu bound, there's not much you can do. Lowering the cpu intensive settings or overclocking is the only thing. You can however up the settings to make the game look better, but your min fps will still be the same. Cpu still has to work the same amount, no matter how much your gpu has to work.

And texture quality isn't usually very heavy on gpu or anything. If you have 2gb of vram, you can usually use the highest texture quality the game has to offer.

weird, wonder why i get slowdowns when going into a new area. Doesn't seem to be anyone else mentioning this like I experience it.

Wish I had a large enough HDD to record to show what I mean. As it was yesterday I just alt-tabbed at every base I came to before I started fighting :O

Could perhaps be related to a bug they haven't fixed yet?
"There is still another one that we're actively tracking down which we suspect has to do with collision meshes being loaded into physics, but we're still investigating. This bug will show most frequently while loading large assets very quickly, for instance, when flying over a major facility."
