Re: Revisiting Deployable Galaxies (Command Center Galaxy)

I read on the latest Roadmap that in August there will be a Galaxy Update, I hope there would be an AMS for the Galaxy.

Re: Revisiting Deployable Galaxies (Command Center Galaxy)

The reason they removed AMS Galaxies was because it made Sunderers unimportant. The Galaxies are faster, stronger, more maneuverable, and better armed. This made the Sundy kind of a joke.

If we want to add the AMS back to a Galaxy, we need to come up with some way to balance them so that they don't make Sundy's pointless. Squad only deployment seems one potential solution, but I think a better one exists.

The problem with the AMS Galaxy was that there was no drawback. In every way, it outperformed the Sunderer. So what I would do is give the Galaxy a weakness. I would make it so that a deployed galaxy can be destroyed as easily, if not more easily, than a deployed sunderer. Two C4 seems about right. This vulnerability only occurs when it is deployed, otherwise it is the galaxy we know and love.

The result would be a mobile spawn unit that gave you mobility and firepower, in exchange for less armor. It would be a high risk/ high reward trade off. A Sundy would last longer, but you could get a Gal there faster. I could see a Gal rushing to deploy on the ground to buy additional time for Sunderers to come in and deploy.

This isn't the only possible drawback. Another option might be creating a "naked" AMS Galaxy, naked because it doesn't have any gun turrets, so that it can carry all the AMS equipment. If you want to move an AMS Galaxy, you'll need support. Once again, high risk, high reward.

Another thought: perhaps the AMS can be added on without having to change anything at all. Since beta, there has been a lot of changes to the base arrangements. In the old days you could land an AMS Galaxy on a tower pad and camp the spawn. This isn't as viable now that they've added the shields to the doors. There wasn't a threat from anti-vehicle turrets. MAX's didn't have the anti-vehicle capability that they do now. Anti-air was less intense back then, now we have a lot more players with anti-air missiles, not to mention flak. These changes alone would make playing an AMS Galaxy a lot more challenging today.

Spawnable galaxies were also heavily abused. I think the changes they've made are good, but the Galaxy definitely needs some love to become more useful.
