The Ragdoll physic engine is an old and outdated crap engion. Way in the world would any one want a 15 year old engine when there are allot better physic engines that simulate body movements today?

I always thought ragdoll looked absurd and generally terrible. It has its funny moments, sure, but its certainly not needed.

Basically this.

I loved it in Global Agenda which already had a cartoon feel and sniping someone as the jetpacked or with a weapon with knockback or explosive is very entertaining. I just don't see at all how it adds to PS2.

i guess nobody is talking about a specific "engine" from 15 years ago.
this discussion is about the feature itself, not the engine.

right now players fall down with no momentum with always the same animation. any 15 year old ragdoll physics would be better than that! the actual physics system in ps2 could be modified to show impact of bullet and explosion momentum on soldiers for sure. better than ragdoll in old games, but i am still sure that this is a nogo as long as the servers and the clients are ovrloaded like they are now.

when all cores are used and we have 64 bit clients, maybe this could really enhance the game, but until then the devs should concentrate on making the game playable and render more enemies at larger distance.

So to sumarise the whole thing:

We have a feature which can potentialy cause performance issues and gameplay issues (the medic thing) if not handled correctly.

The purpouse of the feature: Lulz

Why is it so important again?

Let's see all modern day AAA shooters and MMO's have some sort of physics when players die and it adds to the emotional experience of playing the game, more "Wow OMG LOL" moments. Also considering all the other things SOE has said they may add at some point that might cause performance issues (Destructibility, Giant Floating Airships, Weather Effects, Seamless World, ect.) I think the game and engine could handle some player physics at some point in it's development. I just want to see it on the time line.

As far as the "medic thing" goes well isn't that a medics job to run into the battle and revive and heal fallen players? If one teammate gets blasted away from you odds are another would be blasted toward you as well, it might just balance out. It's not a problem until it's a problem.

I know the game needs continual development and I think SOE has shown us they are in this for the long haul and will continue to develop this game so obviously they feel the game engine can handle much more. Not to mention the whole multi-core thing and 64 stuff, plus how powerful will the next batch of servers be? Maybe they will even tick the continent population up a few hundred players down the road eh??
