The longer i play, the more frustrating become parts of the game and right now, the most
frustrating thing for me is the fast strafing. This dancing completely destroys any immersion of being in a combat and is a "tactic" with no downside at all. I want strafing speed reduced to almost non existant for infantry and replace it with an other ability to dogde hostile fire. The first thing which came to my mind is to hit the dirt toggled with a key in combination with a movement key, so you can throw yourself on your back, belly, left or right side. Pro: your enemy will loose aim for some secs Con: your almost immobile Another move could be a jump into cover, so when an ingame object(box, corner of a building, a tank,...) is near, you can throw yourself behind it. Pro: evade enemy fire while in cover Con: you can't shoot while evading Your opinion? |

It don't feels like there is any reduced accuracy or improved security to me.
I wanna throw myself out of the line of fire or on the ground, would be much more useful than go a step aside, at least once they fix strafing and warping and add some momentum to that, right no there is none, you can change directions to fast. Stand up from your chair, grab a stick to simulate a rifle, and try how fast you can walk to the side and change directions. Movement ingame should at least cover some sort of realism in my opinion. |

Yeah, sadly you are right. Some idiot back in the dawn of fps invented that crap
probably for technical reasons back in the day and now we still have to live with this mechanic. I wouldn't call it a tactic although it is one by definition. I don't know, maybe cause i am sort of a roleplayer in every game i play it destroys any kind of immersion and feeling i have for the game seeing y enemys bunnyhop and dancing in a stupid way, if it would be a battle dance - ok, but it isn't. It look's ridicioulus and stupid, yet is the only practical way to dogde. I do strafe on my own, cause there is no alternative, although i mostly do it at a long range. In cqc it's to hectic for me, most of the time i simply kick the shield in and crouch while aiming for the head. It is enough for most players and my deaths ingame results mostly due to my medium internet connection and 20-30 fps when enemies appear later on my client then on the other players client. And there are some players who are simply better and more dedicated to the game, but they would probably be better anyways, regardless the dogding mechanic. There are a few shooters where you can dogde in a different way and they have allways been a lot of fun to me, like max payne 3 for example. Adding something like this in a planetside 2 style in the game would be nice imo and another unique characteristic for ps2 in comparison to other fps. |
