You didn't miss much. Trammel did a great job flying solo and did reveal that indeed the entire team is working on optimization. He didn't say much about the WDS other than it will be scored in 5 separate weeks then a total at the end and they have other events like this planned in the future.

I cannot grasp why we don't have server transfers as that cannot impact performance can it. Why is there no development on the ps2 beta stats site. Why they haven't seized the opportunity to sell new 6 month boosts to the mass of people coming off alpha squad. Additional outfit ranks and outfit controls (they had these pre beta) |

Well Smed promised a full status update this week so let's stay tuned and see what that's about. Oh and also T-Ray said they were going live in Russia real soon so I suspect that will split some pops on the EU servers.
He said Smed told them all to work on optimization so when the big boss says jump you respond "How high?" He said the intent is to make the game run much better on low end PC's and I can't believe after nearly a year after launch that this just became a focal point but oh well. Programmers, designers, art team and everyone working on it. He also said he was impressed with how well Playerstudio was received and how great the work being submitted by players was. That's all I can remember and he only had 20 minutes time but anyway the PAX guys said they upload all streamed content so perhaps that will come today for SOE interviews. |

Also someone mentioned the PS2 Players Site.. that's an entirely different team who are probably now working on EQN. Optimization involves all teams from Level Design to artists, remember everything in the game effects performance.

I imagine everyone (not just a smaller team or just one guy) is being pushed on optimization because of how SOE is organized. I remember reading that (at least prior to the lay-offs), SOE devs did not have to track ("Track" as in tell us what they did) changes they make to a build so long as the change does not affect the end-user. This specifically mentioned that a few guys (no offense to them) liked to put in things that won't come out into affecting the end-user until months down the line. There's also the facet of unmaintainable code, which while meant as a joke could be at partial play here.
So I imagine they are having everyone comb over everything because everyone, prior to this, did not have to track everything. That or the fact that PS2 performs worse than CryEngine 2. |
