Even deeper, I have multiple characters on each empire and also enjoy a variety of outfits and solo play experiences. When I play a particular character, I play to win. I play for the team I am on. Just as I do with any other game. Why would I limit myself to 1/3 of any game by only ever playing 1 faction/team/empire? Just because you have such a narrow view of how things should be does not mean that everyone else should be so limited. It does not make them any of the derogatory things you list. Thankfully, SOE does not agree with you.
Alerts should never have been put in the game. Automation of player motivation is everything that is wrong with the game right now. The beauty of Planetside is that the players choose the when and where. The players organize and make it happen. Some "sink", but when players get it together and "swim", it is glorious. Do alerts cause some players to faction switch to be on the winning team? I'm sure some do. How many? Who knows? Certainly not you. Do populations need to be dead even to make Planetside a good game? I don't believe so. Sometimes it's a big even fight. Sometimes you steam roll. Some times you get steam rolled. That's variety. Alerts demand even populations for "fair play", since Alerts have a huge XP award attached to them. XP being a motivator is not good for the game. The raw experience of various battles is what is best about Planetside - IMHO. <---Note that I am expressing my opinion, not imposing it on others and degrading those who do not agree. Take a lesson there.
*EDIT*
I'll add that faction switching on same server is a completely moot point to the WDS, since the winner is a simple total for all servers combined and to receive the reward one must only have played the winning empire on any server.

EvilPig, I have been playing video games for 35 years, I know what I see.

IMHO - You are the exception in this issue not the rule, I have come across many players who faction hop just do it to go with the flow and earn certs or use espionage tactics to support their buddies on the other faction. Again (IMHO)
Also I'm now to PS with PS2, I did do allot of reading and watching to catch up on what PS1 was like and all I heard the vets talk about is how faction loyalty was at the core of what made PS1 so awesome, I am taking my lead on how I play PS2 based on PS1 vets raving about how faction loyalty made the game connect to the player on a deeper level, much more than other FPS games of today. I will only play 1 faction.
EP, again (IMHO) I think we both want an awesome PS2 experience and ultimately it's up to the devs to give it to us. With the PS4 launch only a month away I am getting a little concerned that they are not marketing the hell out of PS2 for the PS4. This game needs a shot in the arm but I will be here regardless.
