I'm gonna start a thread of peices of wisdom we have made on our own(IE:nothing from socroties, Sun Tzu, and the likes). Please do not post if your are stoned, drunk, or otherwise in an altered state of mind. I'm looking for original stuff here.
Here is my entry: Fear is a useless emotion for the enlightened, but a nice survival technique for the stupid and ignorant.

I don't have some succint little quote to share, but I'll share some wisdom none-the-less.
High School. For those of us who are struggling through it right now? Keep this in mind. The average life expectancy is about 70. Even more for women. You're in high school for how long? 4 years. Yet, everyone above you, maybe even people you already know, heck, maybe even you seem to believe that these 4 years - especially the last two - are insanely important so you have to make sure you do your damned best so you can answer that oh so important question, "What are you going to do with your life after high school?". Many people think that from high school immediately comes university or college. Some even go further and believe that a college education is far far inferior to a university one. To that? I laugh. School will always be there. Many people take a year in between the leap from high school to college/university and are MUCH better for it because what they thought they wanted to be ended up changing. Out of a life of potentially 70+ years, you're going to believe, or let other people tell you, that the 4 years you spend in high school are going to determine whether or not you're a success or failure in life? Someone can come out of high school with an average of 90% and go on to make 60k. Someone can coast out of high school on the seat of their ass and go on to make 60k. And when both of these people go for promotions, their employer isn't going to say, "Hmmm... well... you seem to be everything we're looking for, and I would promote you... but you did fail [insert subject here] back in high school." On the other side of the coin, they're not going to say, "Well... your work ethics suck... and quite frankly I think you're a dumbass. But, you did graduate with honors from high school, so congratulations." What will they promote you on? How well you work, how well you perform, basically, how well you do what it is you're hired to do. If you're doing what makes you happy, then doing a damn good job of it won't be hard. When promotion time comes, you're goin up. There is no way, no way, that we should be busting our asses going to school and then doing all this homework every night which seems to grow exponentially as the years press on, just so that some administrator who couldn't care less about who we are or what we do in life can sign some sheet of paper saying we did a good job. And then let this piece of paper determine whether or not you live a good life. What should you do? That's not for me to answer. Do what makes you happy. If you like getting 90s in class, go ahead, toss away your youth sitting infront of a computer researching and typing up essays. If you don't give a damn if you fail 50 times? As I said, school will always be there. Personally? When someone asks me at commencement what I have to show for my years at high school, I'll be proud to show them my transcript in which my marks aren't something to stick up on your fridge. And when they frown? I'll just inform them that I've been accepted to one of the best colleges for Massage Therapy in all of Ontario. Perhaps, Fate/God has seen the wisdom in my ideology, and has decided to give me exactly what I wanted. In this life, ya only get one go at it. Do it your way. Do what makes you happy. Don't try to live up to someone elses vision of what type of man/woman you should be. Live up to your own vision. You wanna make 100k per year? You don't need to go to med school to do it. Go out and get your 100k.

Another entry on my part:
You always do what you want to, unless phisical force is applied. Even if you have a gun to you head with a guy telling you to give him your wallet or he'll shoot you, you want to give him your wallet because it will preserve your life for the time being. The people who truely do not want to go to jail never stop running and fighting, the ones that give up want to because it will prevent worse things from happening. Thus, anyone who says "I don't want to [insert action here]", but does it anyways is a liar, because they chose to do it, for whatever reasons, or they mean to say "I don't want to have to [insert action here]", because they did make the choice to proform the action, even if they didn't enjoy it. |
