Is the gun design still boring?

I haven't played in like a year and now I have a download cap I just want to know if they fixed this before I redownload. When I quit all the weapons played the same, shotguns looked and sounded like rifles and in the store they were all basically the same model but with textures changed around.

Is the weapon design fun like Planetside or are they all still Battlefield like boring?

Also is there a proper MCG in yet or do they still use that horrible rifle with a spin up time pos?

Thanx.

Weapons are still boring.

I think the MCG is still the same but I never saw the problem with it in the first place.

I think it's ridiculous the devs don't understand just how big the blandness of guns is impacting the game. I mean obviously it drove you to stop playing. Did the same to me a while back but I'm back in the game again hoping for something to get better (as always). There's a lot of stuff on the roadmap that I'm so frustrated by because they've overtaken more important things. For example, knife customization. Not important.

absolutely nothing in this area has changed.

Critical failure of game's design imo. Choice of making it "modern shooter" was bad one

now tbh, the NS SMG we have now is interesting, and so are the revolvers, but beyond that.. you've got lasher, lancer, and maybe ravens/whatever VS maxes have and the lancer. and these all told are simply not enough because they are either AV weapons or a basically useless weapon.

maybe crossbow...

They've adde alot of new guns since last year. Many non-empire specific ones too (SMG, LMG, Carbines, Pistols).

The empire specific are (Pistols, Sniper Rifles, SMGs).

They've also added empire specific Max weapons. Also, the last major weapon rebalancing happened in December I think.

If you haven't played it in a year, it's worth checking out. They fixed the ADAD spam. There are still some quirks (weapons and speed) that mess up hit registration, but for the most part, it's been remedied.

Planetside 2 is almost a completely different game from last year. Many of these changes are due to player prodding. If you're an infantry player, some infantry changes you might want to know:

- Vehicle splash damages reduced. ESP rocketpods and Liberator Daltons got nerfed too.
- Sunderers finally got a survivability buff.
- ADAD spam nerfed.
- Maxes take longer to revive. Their AV weapons nerfed against infantry.
- UBGL nerfed. 0.75x movement speed weapons got some minor nerf.
- Infiltrator has new abilities (stalker cloak and speed buff).
- Many of the new base changes prevent vehicles from interfering with infantry fights.
- Radars and Recon darts are now very useful.
- As for weapon models, alot of new weapons are completely new with different shooting and reload animations. The lastest one being the Crossbow side arm). For older weapons, they continually tweak the looks/model not just for differentiation but for optimisation.
- They gave each faction unique, Empire specific rocket launchers.
- ZOE which was a nightmarishly OP Vanu Max ability finally got nerfed.
- Nanoweave no longer mitigate headshots.
- It's a bit harder identify enemies due to the new camo coverage.
- Changed VS damage degradation curve. Also, they buffed the VS gun sounds.
- Snipers are OHK at 300m (?). I can't exactly remember because I don't snipe.
- Oh and I forgot, shotguns. They also added different shotguns.
- Lastly, you can check out all the weapons at the Virtual Reality room, complete with dummy infantry, aircraft and ground vehicles. (use the continental console).

Yeah, I really wish they'd been a bit braver with their game design - rather than trying so hard to be similar to CoD and Battlefield. Although to be fair to CoD, the guns there are pretty varied in appearance (if not function) rather than being cut-and-paste like PS2.

I always assumed that particular aspect of PS2 was constrained more by a lack of budget/dev time than anything else. Which also explains why the majority of new weapons are common pool ones - it's the most cost-efficient way of getting new content to the majority of players, though with the long-term downside of making the factions feel even less distinct.

Ya.... CoD and BF have much more varied gun designs (i would argue functionally, but undoubtedly aesthetically). I mean you still can't tell the difference between a TMG-50 and a T9 Carv until you fire them. Another example... Lynx, Jaguar, Trac 9, Trac 9s, every carbine per faction.

Plus everything still sounds pathetic. Vanu got a buff but TR still sounds like broken nerf guns.

Considering your extreme negative attitude towards the game in the past, you're probably better off not downloading it. It will probably only frustrate the heck out of you. I'd say wait another year for this game to implement more PS1-like features.

guns look and sound crap imo. the shaders and textures make them look like some kind of plastic. they dont have that metal feel like in BF4. worse is how they sound like.
