I liked the use of Ads in the game but ads that made noise angered me a lot. Either silent ads or ads that "feel" like they belong in planetside would be great. For example an ad for in tr bases would be for a store that sells ammo Put an android phone ad in that speaks directly to the vanu techies. Sell penis enlargement pills to the NC. And when we invade each others bases then we see the adds of the other empires.

Not a huge fan of the ingame ads. We've grown used to them, but I don't want to walk to the battlefield after just seeing a billboard in my spawn saying, "This kill brought to you by Coca Cola" and it has a nice bottle of Coke with a smiling NC character.
I know its not really like that, but I think ads detract from the mood of the game. |

No problem with ingame ads, but they need to be done right. Means no sound, ever. Place them kindly on the walls of bases again, or add like a random billboard that looks somewhat broken in an urban area. That stuff would work well. But sound is a no go, as well as putting ads somewhere into the UI.

Draep, you don't seem to know what a sellout is. A sellout is a person who changes the way they do things for the worse for personal gain. So, I have no idea why you are calling any of us sellouts. Advertisements are optional to watch. If you don't want to buy anything, don't stand in front of a 2x2 feet poster watching what you hate being bombarded with. Yes, we should have an option to turn off the sound. Nothing wrong with additional revenue for SOE.

His questionable vocabulary aside, I think Draep is talking about the billboards that they had mounted in some bases. I think they eventually (and wisely) turned those off so that it was just the adds above the HART door.

It would probably limit the amount or quality of sponsors, but they could even put in an option to just turn them off.
SOE could even make the adds themselves. A hot chick in a TR bikini drinkin a Dr Pepper, a Jackhammer with the Beretta logo on the side, or a skeeter pilot listening to a radio channel. |

Clearly he wouldn't want to, you use "'aint" and "gonna" repeatedly.
Also to have "sold out" would imply that these people would of previously held the value that advertising was bad, but who are you to assume they did? More importantly, just because you're exposed to advertising it does not mean you need to pay attention to it. Unless you have an obsessive preoccupation with advertising. |

Still having trouble with your vocab words? How about you "ain't" gonna get laid looking like some fat slob from 'Bama, even though you type beautifully. Please Mr. Grammarian, call out everyone who uses contractions, have a fucking type 2 diabetes attack every time someone uses "F2P, lol, j/k or ur ugly" So you don't talk to me about shit either. Don't bother responding to me, I wouldn't want you to get sweaty. |

If you need to resort to fallacy whenever someone disagrees with you perhaps you should consider whether using forums (you know, a place for discussion?) is the right for you. Anyway, ignoring the Ad Hominem, you can't guarantee where the money will go either. As a result your point holds as little weight as anyone else in this discussion, so I'd avoid taking the whole "high horse" route. As for integrity, again you're implying that some stance was held in he first place. I'd like to see such proof, particularly considering the bar has been set that there is no such stance as a result of the ads in PS1. Hell, you attack me even when I didn't even state my position! I'd actually be against ads unless they were integral to the F2P that has been hinted at. Even then, I too would want them to be unobtrusive, perhaps not for "integrity" but simply because... who likes adverts? |

I apologize. I just talk to people how I would in person. I'm just trying to express that I am fundamentally opposed to in game advertising and though nobody on the forums has yet come out with the same view, I can't imagine I am alone in thinking it's tacky. If it is integral to the F2P system, alas I accept.
Gotta admit the DMX was a nice touch though right? |
