Well some that have been playing hardcore since beta probably need to take a break and probably aren't spending much money on the game by now anyway. Get a few thousand new players to stick around will offset the loss. Anyway, maybe Hossin is far enough a long they can spare one person or two to see it through.

Thing is though that it runs for crap for a lot of people even with good computers. The game, again, is notable for being very CPU heavy (and not running as much on the GPU), and also playing not so nice with quad cores in many cases. Add in that a lot of times reducing a lot of the options doesn't provide much of a tangible benefit.

To provide a prominent example, TotalBiscuit, who has done a lot of press and reviews for PS2, has a beast of a rig, and rarely cracks 60 fps. So much he won't even run streams. A lot of people might say "40-50 fps is fine for me." But nobody would say that's "good." :P

Long/short, for some of the hardware that's being used the game should run a lot better than it does. Furthermore, even if a lot of players are using antiquated hardware, they've gotta get it running better on said hardware or not have players to be in the game.

I will not spend another penny on PS2 until it runs good on my Compact Presario

Finally! It is the main reason why I don't play the game often anymore.

While I would have preferred they pooped out the ESF update first (for entirely selfish reasons, of course), this can only be good news for those a-hurtin'.

I whinged earlier but it's not bad. Lots of people suffer with fps issues and stuttering so it's a massive help for them.

Best direction to go in at the moment, this will help retain more players and allow others to play. Its about time

I have not had performance issues in some time and I do not run a beefy rig. Still, happy to have the team working on this. Content level is good right now.

Anyway. Hurray! Though I doubt it'll help much, when playing on my laptop, it'll be a blast to play with my main rig. Optimisation is what's needed desperately.

Re: Development shifting focus to Optimization

Finally.

Last year in sept - oct the game ran great, considering I was zerging with the enclave at the time. Once the game launched, it ran like so much garbage I couldn't be arsed to bother playing. Finally, it got to the point where I was basically cheating, because players on my client weren't where they were supposed to be - they were literally standing still at a distance on my screen and I could kill them, mean while I am sure they were totally somewhere else. At that point, the game was dead to me - no point in wasting my time on such garbage. I considered my $90s wasted and moved on.

Had the game played properly, I would have continued to play and buy things. Period.

I have been fairly happy with the performance this last 6 months.

Im pretty sure that whats actually happening the people who work on content/interface etc are working on the details of porting the game to PS4.

So the code team is being tasked to just optimize as opposed to intrgating new stuff.

Its the right move IMO
I changed from a HD5770 1gig to a GTX660 2gig and there is no significant difference in PS2 with me paired with an i5-750 cpu. And those two cards are pretty damn apart. I can't run on 1920x1080 respectfully which is shocking.

Hope they can help improve things.
In addition, maybe PhysX will last longer than 20 minutes at some point in the near future!

I must admit to being in favour of this change of focus, for purely selfish reasons. I have to overclock the hell out of my computer to be able to play Planetside 2 - oh, how I wish I could afford a CPU upgrade! - which means that, with the hot summer we've just had here in the UK, I couldn't play for most of the last few months due to my computer overheating when I tried. Oh dear.
