Re: Dedicated LMG's

Ok, in all honesty is the balancing so severe, that: an LMG is useless beyond *100m*?

I get that it would not be optimal but the way you describe it, a HA player is going to find he can do nothing but get shot at when fighting in anything much bigger than a tennis court!

Sure a load out can have weaknesses, however I would not wish to change my load out every time my faction advances(forward or forwards towards our own base) no matter the role I played.

are these LMGs deployable like with a 2 pod?
or do you just have to stand still to gain the accuracy?

and will rexos still have the penalty to not be able to enter all vehicles?
if heavys could enter all vehicles as they like, they could use vehicles to get into useful closerange positions and would not have to respec on every team advance

PLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASE.

I'm fine with not blurring enemy vision and whatnot, I agree that the fact that someone is full auto-ing the area around you is enough to stay down, but giving experience for suppressing an enemy is an absolute must to fulfill the LMG role as a tactical experience.

Thanks so much for coming to talk to us, Higby!

I've always played the Automatic Rifleman (Or "Support" gunner) in my tactical FPS games, and other than the MCG and some high-cap magazine rifles in Planetside, there wasn't really anything to speak of for infantry-carry suppressive fire.

Now I'm not talking about an assault rifle with longer range and a massive magazine size, as a lot of FPSes do nowadays. I'm talking an LMG the way it's been to be used, from an overwatch position, laying down suppressing fire for your fellow Infantrymen.

I'd even be fine with it using a deploy system, where firing from the shoulder is possible but recoil and inaccuracy will make it quite ineffective compared to a supported position (Via bipod, or Vanu sorcery, or whatever )

Not a role of glory or lots of kills, but it's a job that needs doing in several games! I really hope they throw in an LMG or two for each faction. Any reasons why this would not be a good idea? Anything you'd like changed from the way other FPS/Tactical games handle MGs?

They have just about every weapon type in Planetside, why wouldn't we have LMGs this time around?

What your talking about is something fucking BIG!!

I must admit, this is the role I've always played. Love big guns and love covering my team mates, I have a better eye for what is about to happen in a crazy situation.

And then they could bail out of mossies on top of towers. No, I think it's best if Rexos are required to depend on allies for their transport e.g. Delis, Sunderers, and Galaxies.

An award for suppression would definitely change the way I use LMGs as before there was no reason to let the enemy know where you were until you could kill them first. Would like to see the kind of gameplay changes this would bring out.

Totally agreed - you would be forever suppressed.

I don't think it would be too big a problem if a Heavy Assault could drive every land vehicle. It's only aircraft that are problematic. The only way a HA or MAX should be able to drop in from above is if someone else flys them in with a Galaxy.

Having a HA hop out of a tank would be fine in my eyes though. It sort of makes sense if you think about it. Heavily armored tank, driven by a guy wearing Heavy Assault. Lightly armored aircraft, piloted by a guy wearing Light Assault.

A tank driver could still wear Light Assault if they wanted to drive up to a tower and then jump jet up to the top of course.

As for suppression, I'm liking where this discussion is going. No penalty for being suppressed (other than potentially getting dead if you poke your head out), but still rewarding suppression with support XP.

It's called the Sunderer, you can shoot out of it now. So no, we aren't stopping there.

Re: Dedicated LMG's

I know those options are a little silly but a CE tri-pod deployed by an engi that has its own ammo pool (say 2-6 clips worth)
would really help squad synergy - its even balanced in a camping scenario because you don't increase fire power ... just the amount of bullets a support gunner can waste at the cost of being a prime target for a sniper.
