each empires site should include a closed strategy section, only viewable by soldiers of a certain rank. this will give them a sense of "If/Then" when they send ppl to battle. also, it will give many people inspiration to develope strats. and advance in rank so they can obtain them. if someone likes to develope strats. while in the middle of a battle, they dont HAVE to post. or if someone simply doesnt like the whole idea of ppl using theri tactics ect. then they can do their own thing and hopefully advance in rank enough to use them.

I'm not certain i understand what you mean. Are you saying people should develope a battle strategy and then post it? Or saying you should post strategies you've used in the past that have been successful? The latter of which might be a pretty good idea. The problem with it of course is that with different people (of varying skill level) some strategies may work and some may not...even if all other factors are identical.

So my question is. What exactly do you mean?

look what if someone has multiple accounts and some how manages to get the strategies. posting your strategies is dumb. have the pleyers you know are commanders that are loyal to your empire write it down if it works.

I honestly think it's too early to do any strategies, and when PS does come out (sometime this century I hope) people will mostly want to do their own thing. Outfits will have their own tactics, and won't want to share.

Yea I am sure there will be ways to talk to eachother about strats, I doubt there will be huge empire only message boards however.

Do that many people really use message boards after games are released? The only message boards I ever use are games that aren't out yet but nearing beta and guild/clan/squad pages. Though, i suppose, if usefull information was shared over these forums regarding strategy and attack plans I might be more likely to rear my ugly head occasionally

Coliostro, what i mean is that maybe people of the same faction could post strats that they know are battle worthy. it may be a good way to help break-in some up-and-coming commanders. it would help them get a few tactics under their belt and make the transition from taking orders to giving orders, a little bit easier.

i digress, it would indeed be easier and smarter just to tell the strats to ppl and let them write it down, or just let everyone use their own.

I think someone already said this but i'm too lazy to read it again. While having an empire specific strategy area for posting sounds, in theory, like a good idea...In practice it's impractical. How are you going to Police who's in these forums? Are they going to have to put their Character name, password, faction in the login process in order to prevent leaks. Nah, it's more trouble than it's worth. Who knows though, maybe i'm just being a sour puss.

i played homeworld for a while and on my clan's site, we had a vault. this vault was made in Flash. you had to have a specific number that was told to you after you had spent several months in the clan. it was a way to deter spies, but i know ppl who WOULD spend months just to steal strats, or spend a while hacking it (not sure how they would go about it). anyway, thats how we did it.

If you were in a clan for several months don't you think you would know the strats already, after playing with the clan for so long?

The problem with a strat board is that there are varying levels of players, skill wise and dedication wise. To assume that all the levels of players will come together and use the board is very unlikely. I think just as with every other game out there, elite groups will form and ignore or flame players that are not at their standards, even forum vets do this. The elite groups, clans or outfits, will have strats they have practiced and perfected, and the casual gamers will be the cannon fodder.

indeed the l337's will flame and iggy lower chars.
even if you are with a group for so long, strats are always a work in progress... there will always be a better way to do things, and ppl are coming up with new strats often (note that ppl are already coming out with strats for PS, pre-released).

Pre-canned strategies before even seeing the game. Now that's die hard..and just silly. Could we at least see the game and play it for a few days before the Pattons of PS come out in full force? That just seems a bit extreme to me..am i the only one?

eh, i would cool it down a bit but i dont have much to look forward to... your talking to someone who gets excited about buying a new shower curtain.
