Today I bought my new graphics card , the gfx 5200 . To me it seems that this card would greatly increase my planetside performance from my old geforce 2 64mb mx . However my performance is not that good. I run the game at 1024x768 resolution and mesh and web detail turned on. When driving in my harraser at top speed I get smooth frame rates but every second or two it skips a frame. What can I do, I installed the newest drivers. Thanx for any help.

What are the rest of your system specs? That might not be a graphics card issue...

It is possible that your CPU might not be giving the card what it can receive... You could really benefit from more ram as well.
Try updating vid drivers too btw.

I'd say it's time for a new machine altogether. If you've got PC100 or 133 SDRAM then you've got an older mobo and that machine won't do for gaming much longer anyhow.
And if it's a non-Ultra 5200... trust me, it wasn't much of an upgrade at all. "DX9 support" my foot. If you feel like playing Doom 3 at 2 FPS it has DX9 support. |

Also the 5200 card is budget. Costs from 60-120 <www.pricewatch.com>
5600 -5900 will give better performance. Make sure in your control panel that you have anti aliasing off and every setting set to performance and not quality.

the 5200 is at the lemon level of graphics cards... certain ones nvidia and ATI push out that just plain stink. you were duped, I'd return it and buy a geforce 4 ti4200 if you want nvidia, same price level, and good performance.
don't ask me WHY but they actually put out new cards that perform worse then their old ones in many cases. I imagine they assume it's easy to make a buck if you just name the card like it's the latest, even if it's not. the 2 best deals right now: geforce 4 ti4200, very good performer beats most of the newer FX line right now in many cases, will run you about $100-130 for 128mb memory version, 80-100 for 64mb or radeon 9500 pro. that's what I ordered today. $185 clams. Not a steal at all, but an exceptional card with real performance and features, and better then paying $400-500 for a tad more oomph. and here's the tricky part: pretty much any cards in between there are lemons, at least value wise. radeon 9600 pro for example performs much worse then the 9500p. so don't dally thinking price or numbering is equivalent to anything here, because you can really step in it if you don't know exactly which type of card you're buying, unfortunately. |
