Hello,
What is the deal with corpses moving around on their own? I've heard this is an exploit. Until last night, I had not experienced it myself. On two occasions I saw a corpse moving around the battlefield freely. He was going up stairs, through doors, etc. I watched a corpse move around for 5 minutes once. Can that really be lag??? Is this a bug and the person is really alive, or is this an exploit and the person is dead but getting a free scouting chance? Thanks, |

Hello,
Reading your post is what reminded me to post what I did! <chuckle> I've seen what you have seen with the sunderer, and I was told the same thing that it was lag. I'm not so sure about it anymore. The two might be related and an exploit, or it could really be just lag. 8-( |

On numerous occasions, I have been shot at near a corner. I walk around the wall so that I can no longer be hit. I take a few more steps down the stairs, then I die with no enemy fire around. I am sure that is lag, and that the fire I took originally actually killed me. I wonder if when I'm walking, if I actually appear as a corpse. Although I have never had this happen for 5 minutes as you have seen. It does happen for a good minute or two for me and I have a good cable modem connection. Perhaps if this happens to a 56k'er, this could be what you are seeing?

I added to my thread later that the Sunderer was driving around for 5 min. I don't see how milliseconds of lag could last for 5 min. Also, the driver, was making real time changes to the people circling around him trying to avoid being ran over. If anything, that's evidence it is not lag.
Doesn't seem right. |

Hello,
I'm not sure really. It seems like an exploit to me with the corpse at least. If the two are related I have no idea. When I saw the two occasions of corpses last night, the game was NOT lagging. However, it could have been a 56k'er who was lagging himself. It is just strange as hell to see a corpse running up and down stairs, jumping in the air, and going through doors. hehehe ;-) |

Now I'm starting to wonder if maybe I was one of those corpses at one point or another. At about 3 points so far (I am on 56k) the game has lagged to the point that it appears to forget about me. In extremely huge battles, I realize I'm in situations where I should be dying and I'm not taking damage. I can then wander freely around PS without worrying about death (I will die eventually, but I usually have over 5 minutes of free time). I have some great screenshots of myself behind enemy lines. Standing directly in front of snipers, watching the enemy army massing, etc. I'm able to reload my weapon about once every 3-4 minutes (the lag is that bad), and I can shoot at the enemy and I get the yellow dot in my reticule saying I'm hitting them but they never go down. Eventually my health will start to wear down as if I'm being hit by really weak bullets (3 or so health at a time) and then I'll die. I always respawn myself in sanctuary just to get out of the lag situation. I've never sent squad tells or anything letting people know what I was seeing, and even if I had it would have been at least 3 minutes before they got it. Now I'm curious if I was dead and my computer just wasn't registering it yet.

If the network packet that says Player00 is dead arrives at your computer, your game will render that character as a corpse. Likewise, when that player chooses to respawn, the server broadcasts to clients (other players) that Player00 should be represented as a backpack (which is the apparent honorable way to be buried!). What is likely happening (and is exampled by kerosene above) is that due to lag/poor connection/high packet loss, Player00 believes he/she is still alive, and on their PC they are moving their avatar around in the world. For whatever reason; likely a bug where the server has not confirmed with Player00's client that he is in fact dead, the server is continuing to broadcast that player's movement to all clients in the area... resulting in a moving corpse.
It is probably a combination of lag and a bug. Not until I get shot by a corpse would I believe that it was an exploit. -- CyberHawke
