I need to know where to get a gzfile uncompresser/reader/whatever, and how to use it because I can't play the game without one. I just wiped my hard drive, and reinstalled PS, now it tries to patch, but at 3dsounds.wav, it cancels because it "cannot read the gzfile properly". It's pissing me off, how do I fix it? I'm real close to cancelling this game.

cancel away.

Tried the official tech support?

Incidentally, are you on 56k? This sounds like a download issue to me.

Um. Yeah.

I don't know what to say bud, there isn't currently any way to install the patches outside of planetside's built in installer. You got me as to what the prob is.

Try connecting to the online support chat people. The address is in the back of the manual. Just tell them you have a patching issue, and don't worry about editing/opening the files yourself.

Over cable modem, you could probably find someone who has a patched up version of the game to send you the files to drop into your directory. I dunno for sure if it will work, but I would bet it will be fine after a full scan.

Anything slower than a cable modem would make this option entirely unfeasible.

I copied the .wav and the .gz into all of the patch folders, and I think I BS'ed it into thinking I've actually got their newer dated version. So thanks for helping me Sony! Oh, wait, you didn't help me worth sh*t.

i don't think it's some connection issue, i don't have it, but my suggestions are to:
-check if you have any stuff to unzip stuff with wich could affect opening these kind of files (winzip, winace and winrar open these things) and maybe software that creates gz.tar files
-check wich program opens it and if non select one of those unzipping programs i mentioned in the previous sentence
-Try cleaning your /windows/temp/ directory. Do this either manually or by going to 'clean harddrive' in start-menu
-Do a quick scandisk, you never know!
-Disable anti-virus and such, also try disabling everything you can (only 2 should remain then: explorer and systray --> wich you may not close!)
-and if i see your question, i can see you need a gzfile extractor, well once again, previous sentences show you the big 3 extractors If non of them are installed these are usually self-extracting archives (like exe's)
-Also clean up the rest of temp files in temporary internet files (watch out, cookies will be deleted, these automaticly log you in everywhere!) and then try again

--> if non of these things works, i think there's a fee-free phonenumber on the manual, but i might be wrong. Support should be great since you pay for this game.

[ example.gz.tar are just like .zip .ace and .rar but they might be self-extracting ]
