IF you didn't read this post, "Why PS is gonna rock 2 years from now.... read it first!
http://www.planetside-universe.com/f...&threadid=1123 PrivateMonkey Station Member Registered: Mar 2001 posted 12-31-2002 03:40 AM user search report post -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I appologize in advance for not reading this whole thread, and if I am repeating old news forgive my ignorance . But I thought some folks might be interested in reading this post Dave (SmokeJumper) made in another thread: quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There *is* a way to affect warp gate ownership...but not directly. More on this later. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I do not know what Dave is hinting at, but also take into account what the FAQ says (and what many interviews have hinted at): quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- How are warp gates linked? Every continent has 3-4 warp gates on it. Each of those warp gates links to a specific warp gate on a different continent. Thus, there are many different ways to get to any single continent as you can do a couple of hops through other continents if any one single way is blocked. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This suggests that there is a way for a "single way", or warp-gate, to be blocked. The FAQ goes on to say more about the subject, in a much more direct way: quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What happens if an enemy Empire overruns a continent? There are bonuses gained for an Empire that is operating on, or from, a continent that is wholly owned by that Empire. Details on these bonuses will be revealed later. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I do not think it is an unsafe bet to say that it will be possible for continents to be "overrun", or "wholly owned". The FAQ itself uses these exact words. As such, I propose the rather logical theory that if one continent can be wholly owned, so can all the continents (in theory). In practice this may (and probably will) prove to be completely impractical, if not impossible. But at least in theory this offers the possibility of a complete victory. And so long as this possiblity, this greater goal, this outcome exists (regardless of how unlikely), that will be enough to drive on players. Long, long ago I suggested that instead of simply making it a rule that no empire can win, make it a reality. Set up the world so that it is always too difficult for any one empire to completely over-run every last continent. But do not make it technically impossible. Leave players wanting it, even if logic tells them it's not possible. Unless Dave is hiding something I believe this is the road they have gone with. I also believe it is the most effective solution to this problem. It satisfies both demands: no empire will ever win, but the game does nothing to directly stop an empire from attaining victory. It is only the "limitations" of the players that will make this "impossible", so to speak. ****************** Here, read, wonder and be teased... just a few more weeks..... Nice detective work. We're not prepared to talk about some of our other combat goals yet, but you're hot on the track of one of them. It'll be fun to reveal them all to you soon. Give us a couple of weeks. http://boards.station.sony.com/ubb/p...ML/001080.html

I wasn't aware the TR empire was invitation only, elitists pigs! We the VS accept any willing to fight for our cause!
Seriously though i have a feeling i might be forced to at the very least make a TR guy on one server and VS on another (assuming we can) just so i can play with peeps from here. |

hehehehehehe, I was just thinking about what it would be like to have all the same familiar names on the same server. Granted, we aren't all going to be the same faction, which may make things even more interesting. I wonder if people from opposing factions will be able to see the names of the people they kill and who they're killed by. That would make for some interesting forums i.e. I blew up Hamma's ship and he landed in a lake, whad'ya think of dem apples.
