Motherboard and ram question

I want to upgrade my motherboard and processor. I want to get a mother board that accepts ddr ram which my current one does not. Since I want to also get ddr ram I was wondering that if I get a new motherboard that uses ddr ram can I still use my sdram until I get ddr ? Thanks for any answers

I am not positive so don't quote me on this however I am fairly sure if you were to buy a motherboard that supports DDR RAM you could not use the SDRAM simply because they have a different slot configuration that won't fit into the motherboard. Again I am not 100% positive though so hopefully someone else can tell me if I am correct or not.

Hello,

She is correct. The RAM slots on the new motherboard will not work with your old RAM. Save up your money until you can upgrade the entire system (motherboard, processor, RAM, power supply, and HDs). Trying tp upgrade piece by piece will only cause you to tear your hair out from the frustration.

Sorry,

Some boards support both DDR and SDRAM, but not really high end boards. The MSI K7S5A supports both. Max DDR though is 2100 speed. Most boards these days are supporting 3200 DDR, just to give you an idea....
