I have a level 4 Vanu on Konried, and today I played with him for an hour and a half.
His Certs-
Reinforced Armor
Medium Assault
Starfire MAX

My thoughts on Vanu stuff-
Pulsar-Decent now, about as good as Gauss and Cycler

Starfire- This ticks me off, it's a joke. I emptied a clip LOCKED-ON! on several Reavers. Guess my Reaver kills for the day? Zero! They ran away from my shots, and then came back and slaughtered me with missiles while I reloaded! The clip is tiny, the speed is equal to a speeding ANT, the damage is negligible, the burn is non-existant. WHY DO I STILL OWN THIS PIECE OF CRAP CERTIFICATION?
I got 0 kills with it, and I got considerably more kills from the Pulsar. WHAT?

Jumpjets-Wow, this is helpful in combat. Now people in the base, outside the base, and in the air can all fire at me at once. Not only that, but after they blow me up I get to crater upon returning to land. Helpful for not running into walls. Wow.

Beamer- I prefer the Mag-Scatter over the Suppressor. That thing is feared. It's Jackhammer in a can. This however, is like a Jammer Grenade, without the jamming effect.

Jackhammer- Overpowered, someone pointed it at me and held down the mouse button. I died pulling my Pulsar out.

Phoenix- I can't even see who's firing these at me! There's no way to kill the person that's shooting at you. Artillery in a can here, Devs, weren't you against dying by something you have no control over?

Vanu Anti-Air-Why is this section here? There's no such thing as a Vanu capacity for Anti-Air. Lancer? Yeah right, those two seconds charging are gonna let you experience 24 Reaver rockets. Lasher? I'm sure it's humanly possible to lead an Aircraft with one of these. [/sarcasm] Starfire? Owned by a Spitfire turret.

Vanu need more of a boost. They have no anti-air! Just bring along three-four reavers and a Vanu force is effectively contained. We were getting owned by Skeeters! There was no way to hit them! NC are just too powerful in some areas, which isn't fair.

Heh... so someone finally tested our side out eh? That actually isn't a half bad idea. It's nice to know what the other factions think of us AFTER they have played AS us. I've also played as NC & TR, very different change of pace. I laughed my ass off the first time I played NC and got my HA weapon right away, and proceeded to wreak some havoc

also, lancer can kill max's in one clip, so quit whining

heh the lancer isnt that easy to use. To be even decently accurate with it you have to crouch, wait for your crosshairs to close in, and lead your target, all the while trying to compensate for the two second fire-delay, which needs even more target leading...it is of fair difficulty to hit a moving target, and the damage is lower than the other AV, which means you have to hit more often, which is difficult due to the CoF bloom everytime you move the crosshairs. Instead, the devs gave you a missle you could guide, in the event your initial aim was a bit off, and distance isnt too much of an issue for you, since you can hit things you cant even see. Also, the devs give the TR something even worse...a powerful missle launcher with the ability to lock on everything manned that isn't standard infantry...and dont start about having to keep a lock on everything...how hard is it to keep your crosshairs on something for 5-10 seconds? In the end, the vanu get a laser beam that isnt even that good against vehicles (what it was meant to destroy)

True, I don't currently play PS (but plan to buy it eventually) and all my opinions are gathered from my beta experience, but my impression is that the Lancer is actually a fairly powerful weapon. Infact when I was a TR newbie I often wondered what that weapon was that kept killing people that the VS were using, I figured it was the VS HA weapon (Lasher), but soon found it was was their goddamn AV!

I haven't actually used the Lancer extensively, but word is that it is one of the better VS weapons.

Yeah but katanaboy, that thing is ub3r-effective against 'soft' targets and ok against vehicles. If it didn't have the charge-up and expanding crosshairs, it'd be a god weapon.

And the Lasher is getting boosted, along with MCG. people who bitch about it after the boost just like to bitch or hear themselves talk. Oh, and look up RMS on Johari if you think I'm an NC JH whore (wait...I don't have HA!).

yes, but the point is...it isnt supposed to be uber against softees...its antivehicular for crying out loud...and i said nothing about the jackhammer...i was just talking about AV. The point is, the lancer's CoF blooms like the bolt driver when you move it a single pixel to the side, so trying to hit a relatively distant, moving vehicle is somewhat difficult.

Hmmmmm Heavy assault costs 6 Certs Pulsar costs 2, but you complain that you got owned? Heres another thought, if you were running around in a base full tilt without your weapon out you might have deserved to be owned.

Jumpjets are great, try using them to leap walls avoiding the enemy and ge the high ground on them, or to dodge decimator shots, or leap over vehicles, and then tell me it sucks. Face it dude get some skill, stop bitching, the lancer is an awesome weapon I drop my phoenex for em all the time happily.

Yes my primary is a NC but I love my vanu to death and I dont use jackhammer on my primary anyway. In fact with the exception of the gaus and the occasional pistol i use no empire specific weapon (personaly i like TR pistols a lot).

VS is overall well rounded their tank rocks, their AV rocks (you just havnt mastered the complicated act of leading your target) I personaly like their medium assault rifle a lot, their MAX's (with the exception of their AA Max) are pretty good. All in all a well rounded force.
