CPU problems

I finally got the final component for my new PC, the CPU, and everything went smoothly while putting it together up to this point, this is a copy of the e-mail I sent the company (ncix.com) in complaint, please tell me if you can answer the questions... I don't wanna wait for more packages in the mail, lol.:

Hi, I recently ordered 1400$ worth of components from your site to build a PC from the ground up. While checking for motherboard and CPU specifications, I decided on an AMD Athlon XP 2600+, and An Asus A7N8X (SKU: 8961) for the motherboard. There were no specifications about the Motherboard on your site, and I knew since it was Nforce2, I needed an AMD processor, so I went to the ASUS site and checked out the specs on the motherboard, it says it is compatible with AMD Athlon XP's (http://usa.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?langs=09&m=A7N8X). With the CPU as the last piece I need to install, since it was shipped late... not that I care that much, I locked it into the slot and was trying to install the CPU fan for about an hour, and when the latches wouldn't reach, I thought maybe there was a manufacturing flaw, while looking through the manual, I noticed that (under the A7N8X Specifications Summary) that it says:

"Socket A for AMD Duron/Athlon/Athlon XP 3000+ or higher
400*/333MHz FSB Support (*PCB 2.0 or later versions)"

Does this mean the CPU is not compatible? Or am I just not installing the fan properly and there's a misprint in the manual? If it is NOT compatible, I feel I was misinformed, as I took all steps to make sure my components were compatible, and would hope that I would be comp'd for the return and re-shipping of a compatible CPU or Motherboard (of course I'll pay for the up/down-grade). It's compatible. I have that same board and a 2700+. Be more specific about latches. The latches on the heatsink? Just put a little ass into it if that's the problem, just don't put the screwdriver through the motherboard.

no trust me itll work theyre just talkin bout itll work with the new 3200+ and the Bartons n some of other versions

ok, i got it on, but in the proces (like you warned) i put the screw driver "through" the motherboard, in that the scredriver slipped and knocked off a little black node type thing, maybe a resistor? I tried to start up the computer, and it wouldn't boot, I'm thinking maybe I fried the CPU? Ram, Video Card and everythign checks out in an alternate computer, just not the CPU/Mobo
