New Vehicle Idea

JUst a idea here folk, im sure it has been brought up before. It would be the size of a galaxy, but instead of a transport it would be a giant gunship. 4 people to operate it, 1 pilot, a rear tail gunner, and 2 gunners to operate a 150mm cannon (vanguard gun, maybe chopped in half) and a 75 rapid fire gun (same as a sund) Make it 4 or 5 certs. Same armor as a gal, same speed as well. Guns are mounted on 1 side only and cannot be moved to the other, they can only move up or down. Any thoughts of comments

Well here is why this is a Semi-bad idea. The Gal might have some speed but not much manuverability. besides everyone wouldn't be able to hit everything and the refire rate is bad on those guns anyway. The Best Gunshit you could get would have Rocket pods, 20mm chain guns for Pilot to Operate, a Tail gunner and about 4 peeps on each side just strapped in so they could fire their own guns. Or just have two guns on on the side about 30-20mm. That would be tight. Not too big Not too small, same armor as Lib. Oh well whatever! Skitt

you ever seen a picture of a ac-130 like they used in afganistan or irag, similar to that. Here is some pictures althought there not great

It would be a real feat balancing something like this. Making it so that it isn't too vulnerable and easy to destroy, or too powerful and thereby overpowering, would be hard to accomplish.

Either way, I personally am not fond of this idea. Obviously a flying Vanguard is out of the question, but even if its weapons were toned down, I don't think it would add much to the game. Meaning, gameplay would not be enhanced very much with the inclusion of such a vehicle, I think. Who knows though.

i guess the big thing is it could go out and scout and provide fire support to friendly troops, and hunt down AMS's. MAybe you can tone the armor down a bit, i mean gals aren't that tough to destroy. Guns could be be changed around a bit too, or we could make them empire specific, NC gets 150mm short barrel cannon. Vanu get a heavy rail gun. TR get 2 100mm cannons that can fire at the same time or even off setting. Just a thought

The GAL is fine just the way she is. we have Lib's , Misquitos, Reavers to do the rest. 2 more aircraft is what is needed (in the airforce department) the lodestar, and something that can deliver just troops ,faster, and manuverable like the misquito, maybe just carry 4 Infantry + gunner, no MAX no vehical.
only chang I think needs made for the GAL is beig able to place MAX's in the vehical bay, should be able to get 4-6 of them in there.

what if they can only be bought in the respective empires sanc, and you can only get them every 30 mins. Might even things out a bit

Hmm, interesting. I would like to see a BMP type transport, where the passengers can fire their weapons frome viewports, maybe only med assault though. I mean, they've already ripped off the BRDM (Deliverer).

What you're talking about is something along the lines of a AC-130, which was added a few months back to the popular Battlefield mod Desert Combat. Suffice it to say, the game quickly turned boring for those on the ground as they scrambled to jump into any plane they could to get up in the air and stop the thing.

As it is, the Galaxy is a great medium transport... though I wish it had some sort of forward-mounted turret that either the pilot or aft gunner could use much like the aft turret - perhaps just switching firing modes would toggle between the two. If you've ever taken a four-man team out in the field with a Gal, you'd already know that she can take down a lot of light armor. Unless you go up against the medium tanks, the Gal can already chew through most vehicles and infantry provided you keep her steady enough for the gunners to aim. The overlapping coverage of the aft turret allows you to have two gunners shooting at one target if you position it right.

The Lodestar, as we know it, will fit something around two large vehicles and maybe a small vehicle. Obviously that's all subject to change, but they haven't mentioned whether or not it'll have room for passengers and what sort of weapons, if any, it'll have. They're not going to replace the Galaxy, so I'm thinking either it'll only transport vehicles, or maybe it'll cost more certs... otherwise the Gal becomes obsolete if something bigger can do its job.

What I'd like to see is a small, but fast transport craft... something that can fit on an air pad at a base or tower with maybe a pilot and room for four in any armor 'cept MAX. Light and fast, it could make for quick insertions into a base and attract less attention then a Gal. Perhaps it could not show up on radar either, so that turrets don't chew 'em up.

Well, I don't know how the game would be affected, but I like the idea HipHop. Maybe change the load out a bit, but for the most part I think it would be fun to use it as you discussed. I would definitely try it out.
