He didn't move on.

Who knows - if he understands videogames and plays videogames he may be a help, but he's probably as clueless as dave. fun fact - most people who make videogames for a living don't care if they are making a fun game or not.

PS has gone from having great potential to not having a snowball's chance in hell of ever meeting that potential.

Well actually, it sounds like Dave is going to become an "idea man" so I'd guess that he played both roles for a while to implement the LLU. Seriously, it's feasible as no one ever heard about it or requested it. It would make sense to be a one man show kinda idea.

Sounds more like Dave wants to get back into the hands on stuff instead of the management stuff. Let the new guy give the marketing reports to the suits while Dave actually focuses on the game.

I find it difficult to believe that Dave would be willingly taking a position that pays less... I know I started making squat, but I did what was fun... Now that I am in a senior position my responsibilities keep me at work 60 hours a week. Why don't I ask to go back to a basic level? Because my lifestyle requires that I make the amount of money that I do...

I would guess Producer is the big cheese, designer is the smaller cheese...

If I had to make two guesses, I would also say that this new guy either pulled some strings to be put in charge of the Planetside project, or SOE did not like the result of Planetside and decided Planetside needed a change to get it to reach their full vision. SOE already owns the MM-Fantasty-RPG market, they were presuming SWG would instantly decimate every other MMRPG to take the lead as the MM-Future-RPG. Then it would only be logical to assume Planetside would crush the FPS market, since everyone wants to pay $14 a month to play a MMO game.
