The game is a lot of fun for many of us. Many changes have gone into the game since it was released, and though people won't admit it, they're for the better. Before, I would have told you that you'll find yourself doing the exact same thing everytime you log in: fight, hack CC, wait, fight, hack CC, wait, etc. But now, there's a second base capture system designed to bring the battles Outside and involve a lot more vehicles than I've seen prior to the patch.
I think you'll find that your character can be just about everything you want them to at around BattleRank 14. The weapons are balanced for the most part, and all have equal chances at doing harm. Currently, there's plans for new content that will make it's way into the game via downloadable patches as well as a new Expansion pack that will offer more weapons/vehicles/areas. Sure, the game has it's bugs. But few are as bad as they're made out to be; most are just annoying to the player. All in all, Planetside is a decent game with plans for even more improvement in the near future. ghost |

I cant speak for tribes 2, i liked it, but i'm a purist and much prefered tribes one.
Planetside is a great game, great battle great fun, definitly worth the price of the initial purchase for at least that first month and beyond I honestly spend way too much time playing it, and it shows in my social life. There are problems with it, but they generaly are in a constant process of getting ironed out. New content is being added, some of which youll agree with, some of which you wont. The battle are big beautifula nd a lot of fun, the options for combat roles to fill are vast. yes you will see naysayers, but i'll be blunt, they fall into one of two camps generaly. Those who love the game and complain because they hope flaws will be polished. And those who suck at the game and quit because their skills just wernt up to par. Things you will miss from tribes 2. Jumpjets The ability to lone wolf it. - I'm not saying you cant fight on your own, far from it. However a squad working together can dominate as many as four times their number as long as they have a stable spawn and the variety of troopers to see things through. Well thats my take on it, not enitirely lucid, but still positive. I also tried to mostly form coherant sentences. Well off to nap a bit before the prime playing hours for those in the states.

first off, fuck u ghost and lonehunter
2nd, u still do the same things over and over, u fight, hack the cc, wait, then take the llu to a friendly base, it's not like u do something different everytime, ur still doin the same thing over and over and over, alls that changed is that u wait less, and fight outside the base instead of inside

I was a long time fan of Tribes 2 (Was on Dev team for meltdown2 mod) and I have to say, PS really is a lot less repetative than tribes 2 in some senses.
In tribes+T2 you really at one point realize... "wait we are ust capping a flag... over and over again..." When I came to this realization I started modding and playing differend game types however it really was the same repetativness over and over again. deathmatch is still deathmatch and CTF was still CTF. however in PS it really is a lot more free-form and how impatient are you if you can't stand a little wait? Anyway... major differences: 1. No jetpacks. Talk about an obvious point... but it really was a major sticking point for me at first. although the Vanu maxs look an awful lot like the Juggernaut armors in T2 http://tribes2.sierra.com/img/armor/...n_heavy_be.gif <- imagine jumping into air in a fashion similar to maxs for those who don't know how these fly. 2. Way more people. I remember playign tribes it was sometimes nigh impossible to get a full 64 player server going, PS you often see that many or more in a battle on a fairly regular basis and with a lot less effort required to shoehorn the people together. 3. Hella lot more vechicles and weapons and more being added . If you wanted more variety in tribes odds are you would have to look for a mod and most good mods were clientside and you would have to download. Anyway, just try it out a bit, after seeing some of these complains made by some people it really seems as if they have been spoiled by planetside and now look for anythign they can bitch about. (Not to say it is perfect, there are still some bugs to work out and this new patch gave me some major packet loss issues, but hey! its a growing game!) Also, 13$ a month is really not that bad. I pay more for magazine subscritions. If you take the amount I end up donating to NPR its more per month than planetside. Pay-for-play games are really not bad, you pay to get constant service and upgrades, massive servers and a large staff to monitor the community. 13 $ a month per person is really more than fair. Hey, why should the devs be made to work for free? |
