Ok...I just went through a very heated discussion of the Deci vs. Pounder max. I myself have taken down many a' maxs with my deci, INCLUDING THE POUNDER...but for some reason...ppl seem to think that no matter what, an encounter with the pounder=death for neone, including my deci. I dunno, maybe theyre right, maybe i did get lucky those 40-50 some times, honestly i think the deci would win a bit more but all together its somewhat even, whats ur opinion on the 2?
BTW: Range- Very close to medium Health & Armor- Both at max *Excluding any special implants or maxs with personal engineers* |

Never used a Pounder, mainly because I've Been Vanu almost since I started playing. So I don't know how it handles. I do know that I've gone up against a Pounder many a times. I hate them in battle, but I have survived an encounter with them, without the Decimator. Simply stay behind them. Not exactly easy, considering the lag time, and being killed even when behind them. I wonder if they get hurt by their own bullets like the Comet does. I think that if they don't, they should. I mean a soldier gets hurt by his own 'nades, a Comet gets hurt by it's own plasma. As for Deci vs Pounder, I just recently got my Spec Assault cert, and even before that I've been killed by 2 Deci shots. I'd say the Decimator would win hands down in the right hands. Even in a wide open plain. Mainly because the soldier is constantly moving, where as, from what I've seen, Most MAX's don't move much. Only the VS MAX's have the upper hand against a Decimator, as When I was in one, I tended to jump and move. I've never been hit with a Decimator when i do that, especially if the area is wide open.
So, to your original question, Deci VS Pounder, Deci, hands down, always. Flammey - Emerald "#1 in ANT runovers - Flammey #1 in locking keys in ANT - Flammey" Last edited by Flammey; 2003-08-18 at 05:04 AM. |

my single biggest complaint with the pounder is it's grenades. AoE splash on a MAX? hardly fair when only one empire has such a thing. then the icing on the cake is the secondary bounce mode. that's just fucking wrong. plop it down at the top of a tower, turn on audio amp, and nobody but nobody is getting near him unless he says they can. all the decis in the world don't do shit when you're dead around the corner and never get a shot off. the damage is kosher for an anti-infantry MAX. how and where it delivers that damage is my complaint.

I only have rudimentary experience with Decimators, so I can't really make a jusgement. I think that, given the circumstances and my knowledge, the win ratio would be about even.
Pounders are very much overrated in the eyes of the enemy. I play with the New Conglomerate; I can say that I have an objective viewpoint. And with the most recent Pounder balancing changes (which took place a while back), it has most definitely been knocked down from "weapon of mass destruction" to "weapon of MAX destruction". All in all, it's about as difficult to fight as any other MAX armor in the game (on average). As a grunt, is it difficult to survive against a Pounder? Yes. But I believe that it's just as difficult to survive versus a Quasar/Scattercannon who's a good shot.

Pounders are also good VS other MAXs, tried one out yesterday and anchored with my back and sides in a corner covering the main door of a base which was being attacked by an NC Zerg, i killed 3 NC MAXs and 11 NC infantry, the fourth MAX got me by MAX running at me then shooting me with scattercannon (tecnically i got myself from grenade damage) But that was without repairs, so they are bloody effective if used right. For tower and base defence they are great. Pretty good against vehicles too if you get chance.
However, Pounders are sitting ducks for reavers, almost impossible to hit a reaver with a pounder if it keeps strafing. |

Sun Tsu says that you should use your enviorment to aid you in battle, and the surroundings do affect the outcome of the battle, it is what he called "Earth" i think, anyways, this works in PS too a Pounder Vs Deci in a hallway, pounder wins, Deci against pounder in wide open, where Pounder has the high ground, Pounder, Deci with the high ground, he wins, ect. you get the picture

Problem with the pounder inside is that it doesnt have much range in large low rooms/corridors, you cant get the ARC. Of course secondary fire has more ranges as the grenades bounce along, but Vs a Decimator you are giving the a chance to fire and get under cover before they explode.
Personally, i always carry a decimator, you never know when you'll need it. |

If you attack an anchored pounder head on (like on tower stairs) you dont get time to get two decimator shots off. The number of times i have stood on stairways and spammed 15+ infantry to death before accumalated damage get me is amazing. If you have an engineer you can go on indefinitely as long as he stays out of harms way.

For those who were wondering, the pounder does a shitload of damage to itself when in close range battles, and the average grief level for a pounder user is about 600. (This partially due to TR stupidity, and the nature of the pounder; basically everyone makes a macro saying "get the fuck out tha way, pounder max")
