planetside has drawn 60,000 subscribers???

quote:
Planetside has drawn more than 60,000 subscribers so far, according to SOE, and its developers are keen to make it clear that they don't plan to slack off on supporting the game any time soon. The team has in fact beefed up its programming staff to pick up the pace of updates, and the new expansion looks like it incorporates several steps in the right direction. The addition of more goals to accomplish and more terrain to explore should do plenty to extend the game's lifespan beyond that one month.

60,000 subscribers..???
where are they..
each green dot is about 750 players..
correct me if im wrong please..

They aren't even necessarily all active subscribers. The wording is kind of vague, that could be 60,000 different accounts that have been active at one point or another. Sounds like spin to me.

No one knows how many people a dot is. That's why it's dots and not a set number.

No it's not. EQ currently has over 250,000 subscribers. SWG has a similar number. FFXI is predicting 100,000 subscribers at release.

I just realized it doesn't even say paying subscribers. This really could be anybody who bought the game and activated their free month, it could even include people on the 7 day trial (although I doubt that). It really isn't a large number but it still seems like an exaggeration.

That's what I'm saying. No one can confirm it because SoE won't tell us. If they did it would defeat their goal of no one knowing how many people are on a server. Never have understood why they don't want people to know but it changed a few years back with EQ with no warning and it looks like they want to keep all the games that way.

just the ' has drawn 60,000'
i found that to be funny..
they dont have 60,000 subs

i see only 2 servers with 4 dots.. and thats werner and emerald

markov was poppin at first but seems to die..
i see markov at 2 - 3 dots...

SoE needs to make moves...
i like the idea of a MMOFPS.. only reason why i bought the game..
'playing against 1000s of players'
like there ad says was attractive..
now its more like hundreds....

they either need to cluster servers, merge them somehow..
with this new expanison.. (even thou im going to get it)..
is going to be hard looking for a fight.. with 6 new massive battlefieds...

TO SOE (if you ever read this)
most of us like this game.. im one of them.. make moves.
draw more people into the game.. you got a good concept going here... DONT FUCK IT UP..

i have digital cable.. and they have a phat ass channel..
G4 tv..
and the dude from Judgment day..
the lightskin.. tall one... he breifly interview.. someone from SoE that is involved with Planetside... think it was Danny Han...
well he said that.. per server it can hold over 5200 players..
per cont.. it was 500 players...

sort of gives you an idea...

About FFX1, anybody know if that has any PvP in it? PvP is one of the best parts of an online game since your not fighting some AI monster. I would like teaming up and partying along but, I think it should at least have some PvP.

Anyway, I think the problem with PS is that it's not a well known game such as the final fantasy series or everquest. Even though SOE made them both everquest related products take up more space in the shops. With PS there isn't that many products. Maybe the expansion will kick things up a bit. I think also that alot of people like power in a game. Since a BR1 can kill a BR20, they don't feel that sense of power, even if they have power in skill. Alot of people would probably want some kind of currancy, rare items, or really strong moves such as ultimate spells which you get in games such as everquest. But in PS BR only allows for more flexibility and adapting to situations, CR kind of adds some power with OS but not that much.

If it is 750 ppl per dot, that means that a 4 dot server has 3000 people in it, werner and emrald both have 4 dots usually, and markov will occasionally hit 4.

ok lets say at one given moment....

Emerald: 4 dots = 3000 ppl

Konried: 2 dots = 1500 ppl

Markov: 3 dots = 2250 ppl

Werner: 4 dots = 3000 ppl

Johari: 2 dots = 1500 ppl

added up thats....... 11,250 people, thats.... like one fifth of the 60,000 number put in by SOE.

I'd say that 1/5 of the total subscribers on at one time is a fair guess, some maybe these numbers are correct.

And I know those servers dots are pushin it but at prime time they might make those numbers.

Maybe my math is wrong, I dunno........... algebra is making me forget basic math now, pushing all the stuff I actually need to know out of my brain
