Population Dilution

Here's a thought. Do people feel there are enough players on the Planetside servers?

I'm on the west coast so I play on Johari, which has roughly half the population of Emerald (estimated from Thott's statistics). I also tend to play late at night. Usually when I come on, there are one or two blue population bubbles on the server selection screen. This translates to large empty continents, and no hotspots most of the time (making Instant Action useless). There is usually some small battle going on, and it's fun, but I wonder with all the wasted continent space if it would be more fun to have a huge battle, or the choice of smaller battles around the other continents.

With the upcoming expansion, won't this splinter the population even further? As I understand expansions, only those who buy the expansion will play in the "new world" with the new features, and this will mean even fewer players in both worlds.

Solutions? Will SOE consider merging servers, for example the two lightly populated west coast servers? Will SOE consider allowing players to transfer characters to different servers (with perhaps some time limitation, e.g. no more than once a week)? Does anyone else see population as a problem?

Hmm they would have to make it so you could stay with your outfit when you changed servers, but if they worked some things out I agree. Yeah the population is a very small fraction of what it was when it first realised. Emerald had about 4 YELLOW dots at prime time. And had about 4 white dots the rest of the time. Times have changed. And with the expansion the population will go down because some people won't get it. But I think that most people still playing PS will get the expansion if their budget allos for it.

The expansion will also hopefully bring new people into the game, and hopefully also the people who quit to PS. I think a server merdge if you could transfer your character would be awesome. Only problem is they would have to transfer alot of characters, and also my friend has 4 guys on 4 different servers. On 3 of the 4 servers he has those 3 guys with all the same names. Same with I saw a guy named bill cosby on 3 different servers with that name. It would cause some name complications but once they get through that it would be fine.
