I've seen no change in FPS whatsoever, so it's not a global problem.

Someone on the PS tech board gave the explanation that the new patch increased FPS, but at the same time uses ~300mb more RAM.
"If you have less than 512mb of RAM PS has to use system pagefile. If it has to do this the game of course falls apart - every turned corner leaves the disk churning and any busy areas are unplayable." I don't know if this is true, but it does sound very logical. That would explain why some people experience "lag" and some are getting much better FPS. My suggestion is to shut off all progs other than PS and if you are running a voice prog, it shouldn't take up too much RAM. That includes all the crap that is in the startup (look in the lower right hand corner). If you have less than 512mb RAM, you really should think about upgrading. 512mb of RAM is now becoming the "lower" standard...and in a few months, 1024mb RAM will be standard. |

If the game is using more RAM, then that's why I'm suddenly getting stutters and major lag.
Before the patch I was able to play with low video settings and not have a single problem all night. Now I generally have sporatic stutters and long periods of lag. If things get worse I'm going to have to go back to board games. |
