Server Population Dots

So, do you think the removal of the servers population dots is a good thing, or a bad thing?

they should have NUMBERS not dots, the dots dont tell me anything. one dot could mean anywhere between 1 and 500 people. i want to know exactly how many people are playing, or at least have a good estimate.

The only reason they are removing the dots is to cover up the mass exodus of players. Sony did the exact same thing in EQ when DAoC was launched because they lost 30-50k players at once and it really made them look bad

They did have numbers in beta, but then there was only one server too. They made them dots because hiding the numbers from competitors is a good business decision.

I think no dots is a good idea to keep people from server jumping.

Yeah, I don't know about you guys but even when there was only 1 dot on Markov you could still get into some massive battles. It's all about where you go, and how long you stick around if it seems empty at first.

We all know Emerald and Markov are usually the largest servers. What's the point of complaining if they take away the dots? It isn't like they can take the knowledge out of your head.

I thought Markov was almost as small as Johari?

It is, but it's the biggest population for the West servers, where as Emerald is the biggest population on the East servers, and out of all the servers. As for the server info, Meh, I don't care. I only play one character, even though I have two. I've never really played my NC character.

i agree with sniper4ever we need some numbers. i don't really know how many people were playing. But it's a little better than it was because people weren't discouraged from playing on low population servers.

I fail to understand how anyone can believe that the company hiding data we previously had is a good thing, or even an ok thing.

This is not a measure to prevent server jumping, this is sony attempting to save face and so the dev team doesnt have to deal with the "Why dont you merge the servers" argument as much.

They want to keep us ignorant.

I remember when EQ pulled the numbers and put up dots instead. That made the whole thing pointless, as is whats going on in PS as well. What do the dots mean, exactly? As population keeps dropping, they can just makes the dots equal less and less people. For all we know, three dots could represent three people by the end of it all. Putting up numbers would be a hell of a lot better. If anything, as we watch the numbers fall, it would put more pressure on the devs to improve the quality of the game. As it is, theyre just sticking their heads in the sand instead of doubling their efforts to address issues, which always comes back to bite you in the ass.
