Upgrade!

Ok i have gotten some jobs putting computers together, and i am going to have some money to buy a new proccessor and some high preformance memory (2 sticks this time for DDR rates) along with the parts for some improved case cooling but no questions about that.

now I'll ask my proccesor question first, there are a number of Pentuims on the market that would be suitable for me, i have a 2.4ghz celeron and that needs to change so i can make use of the DDR400 efectively with an 800mhz FBS, now the 2.6 ghx P4 is what i'm going for HT 800mhz FSB and everything, but a new P4 the "extreme edition" is coming out whitch is basicaly a Xeon in P4 form with realy big cashe l3 of a mb i think but i hear is wil be expensive. And also the new "Presscot" proccessor whitch is first coming in in the 478 pin and my MB should suport it as it is one of the correct chipsets it wil be a 2.8 ghz or a 3.2 as first and the 2.8 is suposed to be 260 or so, just over the 2.6 P4, so what should i do?

And for the memory shoul di go for DDR400 cl2 Kingston hyper X? it has the best Latencies of OCZ and Corsair along with a lifetime waranty, or shoudl i go with the DDR500 and oc my proccessor a bit but those moduals only come in CL3 (here i go with the Kingsont hyper x also) i'll be geting a pair of 512's for a GB if that even realy matters

First on the processor if I was you I would cange my motherboard and processor an Athlon XP 2800 is nice and cheap but if your upgrading an existing mother board then a 2.8 with Hyper threading is the best option

For editing its just below your sig in a butin saying edi this is not meant to be patronising

On ram your fine

PS: prescot is the surname of an idiotic labour minister just another piece of useless information for ya

Edit: yes i used it :P The labour minister is called John prescot and is a monister in the UK labour party

Intel Prescott prices for 2004 revealed

Desktop Roadmaps The rush to 90 nanometers

By Mike Magee: Wednesday 03 September 2003, 14:50

WHILE THE NEXT MAJOR desktop price revision for Pentium 4s comes on October the 26th, as we've detailed before, there will be a major price shift again in February next year as Intel begins to substitute the current Northwood generation of chips to Prescott.
Prescott volume pricing will give price parity throughout 2004, as Intel releases more and more desktop CPUs which include hyperthreading, a 800MHz front side bus, the famous Louis XIII Prescott New Instructions and all on 90 nanometer technology. Intel is obviously confident it can make the switch with few problems at all.

Frequencies of the desktop chips are broadly in line with the August roadmap details we published, but on the 5th of November Intel will introduce a 2.8GHz desktop Celeron processor at $117, while the 2.7GHz will be released on the 24th of September next. Price cuts for Celerons come on the 26th of October, with a 2.4GHz chip costing $70, and a 2.5GHz Celeron $80. The 2.7GHz Celeron will be introduced at $102.

26 Oct Intro Intro 15 Feb Intro Q2 04
PSC 3.8 $637
PSC 3.6 $637
PSC 3.4 $638 $417
PSC 3.2 $417 $417 $278
P4 3.2 $278
PSC 3 $278 $218
P4 3 $278 $218
P4 3.06 $262 $218
PSC 2.8 $218 $178
P4 2.8 $218 $178
P4 2.8 $193 $163
P4 2.6 $178
P4 2.66 $163

* PRESCOTT (PSC) include Hyperthreading, 800MHz front side buses, PNI, 90 nanometer technology, and 1MB cache. The table shows how the Northwood will be displaced over the next nine to 10 months. Note that where the same frequency for the Pentium 4 appears twice, these represent 533MHz and 800MHz FSB versions of the same chip.
