Question Estimate upgradeing from a G4 Ti4200 to Radeon 9600XT how big of FPS improvements?

Im getting one when it comes out and was wondering how big of FPS improvements will i see. My current Card is Geforce 4 Ti4200 (64 MB DRR)
the one im getting is Radeon 9600XT. My other comp specs are down below.

Update: The Radeon 9600XT is a 500MHz core and 600MHz memory card, 128 MB of DDR (might be 256MB) not shure.

Frankly, not too much. The 9600 is not THAT much of a leap from the GF4. You'd see some improvement, but if it's the Raddy 9600 XT you want you can probably snag the 9700 PRO for a similar amount of cash these days and REALLY see an improvement.

Frankly I'd spend the money on an additional 512 megs of RAM. Trust me, I can say from personal experience that you will notice better gameplay when you do that.

PS is just a RAM hog , im talking about other games besides PS Lag doesnt bother me with 512. I would just like better FPS in big zerg battles i get about 30 good but not great.

Well, it won't help you EXTREMELY but you will notice an improvement... maybe 10 FPS. The biggest imrpovement is probably in the VRAM department.

I cant remember if it was gamespy or TH that reviewed the 9800XT

They said if you have a current gen card ie Geforce 4 or radeon 9700 you should just wait. These cards 98/9600XT dont offer that much of a gain.

GF4 is technically a last-gen card. Believe me, once you turn on anti-aliasing and anisotrophic filtering you NOTICE the difference.

But that's with a 9700/9800. A 9600 probably won't give you that much of a gain for what you pay.

The performance diffrence I've gotten between my Ti-4200 and 9500 (non-pro so I could over clock if I ever wanted to) didn't have any top end performance really. My low end has gone up though. Around the zerg on zerg battles with my 4200, I would get low-end rates around 10fps. Since I've dropped my 9500 in that system, my low end doesnt get below 20 very often. In other words, more holding power.

The only thing I've got to note thats really postive/negtive is the Aniscopic filtering dosen't seem to work for about half an inch on the lower left quarter part of the screen.
