Air tanks (a cross between Vanguard and Galaxy)


Imagine sticking a few big cannons on the underbulley of a galaxy (firing arc would be a dome shape), of course you ahve to sacrifice the MAX and veh positions . but it could be a very fun air support unit

u can get with gal cert

BAH

the lib is an inacurate area effect bomber

What I'm talking about is fully targetable cannons that can strafe the ground with shells , and with a good gunner always hit the mark

sure bombing is an art and can be fun

But I think this would be a sweet seat to ride in and bag some MAXes and armour

Ok lets think about this. A tank gun on the bottom of a galaxy? You could go up to 400m and kill everything you see! That wouldn't be fun.

So, basically you want a vehicle with extremely high firepower and armor, good speed, decent maneuverability, can fly over any terrain features or mines, and is virtually immune to all but 2-3 different weapons, not to mention it doubles as an APC, correct? That just screams balance to me.

Edit: almost forgot the range the damn thing could kill at would likely rank just over Insane.

You people really dont think to much before you write replies do you?

Have you never heard of balencing a unit ?????

lets just go through it shall we

First off the cannon on the underbelly, its not atatched to the most stable of surfaces, it mounted on a flying brick. Obvisouly its going to have a rather large CoF and when moving at speed that going to get larger. so sitting at 400m trying to peg ground unit wont work too well since you shots are not going to be exatcly on target

Were talking cannon fire here btw, somewhat ineffective against infantry if you could even hit thoes pin priks on your screen

decent maneuverability (obviously not a galaxy pilot) and to balnce this unit decreased responsiveness due to increased weight and wind resistance on the cannon should balence it out nicely

tweak these enough and you could make a unit which would be a good support unit for infantry droppping out of it (supresson fire), however anit gonna do to well solo vs other units

So next time your hear a suggestion for a unit think before you say
"OMFG that would be so overpowered!"

if you handicap even the most uberl33t of units it will still be balenced

Oh and one more thing

supoose told you there putting in a new unit that can fire well beyond its range and damage an area with weapons that will insta kill some units.

You'd say OMFG !!!!! OVERPOWERED

cept they are putting in such a unit. tis called the Flail

but its huge upside is ofset by massive downsides like slow crap handling and manverbility, not to mention terrible inacuracy without support range finders, and not the much armour when it is found.

like i said no matter what a unit can do, if you handicap it enough it will become balenced.

shit you could even put in a unit that can kill all enemy players instantly on a contient . OVERPOWERED ?
not if it has these handicaps
this unit it huge (like size of a tower), has very little armour, need to contantly be refueled by ANTS during its 4 hour powerup, it appaears on every radar becuase of its size and power output, can be sabotaged by infil hackers, and must be deployed outside the protection of a warp bubble

all of a sudden this seemingily overpowered unit is quite a reasonable addition

First of all, an artillary peice that requires a spotter is TOTALLY different then an air-based gunship. Secondly, taking an attitude with the community you are trying to convince is not a good way to win support for your idea.

Thirdly, the only way this idea would be remotely acceptable would be to remove the passenger slots. You can't have a gunship/APC, it just dosen't work.

All that being said, I'll rather see a air-based AMS style vehicle before a gunship.

If you pack up and leave PSU now you might be able to bring some diginity with you. I think I'm gonna stop reading after that absurd idea.

Actually, i think it's more the mind numbing aura of stupidity that came from his last post.

Think about it, he wants to take a Vanguard, give it wings, double its armor (probably more then twice actually) and give it a troop bay. Seriously, sit back and think about it for a second. It's a much more stable firing platform then a tank, it can bypass any sort of terrain, it is always in the best firing position, it is practically immune to ground weapons and it can soak up tons of damage from the few that can kill, almost certainly allowing it to kill first. It can bypass any static defense line, can place an assault team in any position neccessary and can outshoot any unit in the game. Well boo fucking hoo you can only buy it from one base, all that does is make the difference between the haves and the have nots even larger. The only thing that could possibly kill it would be a Reaver or a skeeter, assuming the 20mms were striped off of course (any AA max would be plastered with fire the second it gives away its position, and there would almost certainly be more then one floating around to do so) but all that would require to counter it is that the pilot be smart enough to know where his battlelines are or bring an escort.

Indeed. I maintain my position that if you take out the troop carrying capacity, give it one 75mm cannon, one 100mm cannon, and chainguns along ONE SIDE of the craft, it could be balanced, as long as it has armor roughly equivelent to the liberator.

APC+Gunship = teh lose. Balance please.

Meh, I'd rather have a Lib that has no bombadier and carries an additional 25mm cannon bubble turret under each wing

I my 35mm cannon, it takes out everything
