I was just wondering who likes the new xp system. I'm glad I am now getting more xp per kill, but could someone explain how it works. I do have a few problems with it.
First of all, to me, it seems completey random. The guy running around for twenty minutes with MCG is no less deadly then the same MCG guy who just spawned. I can understand (and agree with) getting little or no xp on people in standard armor, but a rexo with JH is deadly whether he has been alive for 30 seconds or 30 minutes. Secondly, the xp system seems to now reward kills as opposed to teamwork. The number of snipers has jumped 3x (not complaining, just the motives are wrong). And you almost CAN'T level up unless you have MAX/TANK/REAVER certs. Where is the avd med luvin? Hackers? Gal Pilots?? AMS/ANT drivers? Granted if your in a squad, you get a share of your squadmates xp, but that really isn't the same. If I go solo sniper/reaver pilot/Lightning/etc I can get 300+ xp a kill easy (seen 500+ with a beamer ) This in my opinion takes away from teamplay. Needless to say my next cert will be AI MAX, as I'm now stuck on my 2nd day of BR11 with 6+ hours a day, and I miss leveling up.

Um... Why don't you squad up then, people are always looking to fill squads.
Also, you expect to get BR11 - BR12 in 2 days? News Flash, it's only going to get slower form here, enjoy the ride. Took me about 12-15 days of playing about 3 - 4 hours a day to go from BR15 - BR16. ~Tide |

maybe, could be just bad luck. Suppose its the same guy, just got overwhelmed, and is now respawning, we fight, I win, I get 3 xp. Had I killed him just 30 seconds ago, that would have been 300xp.
I understand the want to reduce spawncamping, but if he has his loadout, and walks out of the spawnroom, he is just as deadly worth 3xp as he was 300xp. Actually when he would have been killed for 300xp, he most likely was easier to kill as he most likey had less armor/health/ammo/healthkits/etc. And if he hopped in a MAX? Just a thought.

im not complaining about the BR thing, the gameplay is my reward. But a month ago BR11 to 12 with 5k hacks didnt take long. Last night I got 3 2.5k hacks with several more over 2k. Pre-balance that would have easily been 20k+ which last time I checked was enough (I had BR11.4 to start with 2 days ago, didnt post though, didnt think it was an issue). As for squadding up, I'm in a VERY active outfit (Golden Triad) and I play every night. Honestly I am just saying that I preferred the old xp system and think the support roles still need some loving. The game is still good to me, and I enjoy it very much (minus godjoey), just wondering what others thought.

I usually wind up doing defensive work and operating alone, so the new experience system has been great for me and my style of play. The extra BEP for kills in friendly SOI is nice payback when I've been defending a base all by myself and trying to protect our gains over the course of a battle.

I prefer the new system as well. Defense was always a waste of time before, and I never thought it was fair that people could coast with a zerg and skate 5k caps for doing next to nothing.
This is a FPS, kills should be what matters the most because they take skill and reaction time. There are plenty of MMORPGs out there if you prefer mundane tasks like healing people or collecting magic items. |

Yeah, but those 'mundane' items aslo add to the FPS expeience. I mean the TACTICS to this TACTICAL, SQUAD-BASED fps are almost gone now. I kinda like the new system, sure. But I think he's trying to say that the support roles arn't up to snuff, and there is almost no use to it.
I like the EXP thing now as it is, but there should be more of a motive to the support roles, or why have 'em? Also the people that are just jmping on the band-wagon of sniper-dom and other things (VS MAX's coming to mind) are a pain in my ass, not because they kill me so often, as they just do it to be kill whores, i HATE followers. I WANT MY INF BACK! p.s. sorry for the book. I usually own those people though. my SA chara kicks all sniper/MAX ass to the hazzy. |

lol good point jagd.
Though "collecting magic items" can be accomplished in a FPS, take a look at Deus Ex. There's a game (Deus Ex) that balanced FPS and RPG perfectly, so although it was still a FPS, the RPG gave the game more meaning, and in the end was more satisfying than say Doom or Unreal. Planetside, at its core, is a FPS, but i felt that the leveling up system was there as a RPG factor, to create a game that didnt lose the majority of its player base in just a few years (MOHAA is a prime example). I will admit that Base Defence is 100x more fun since the balance pass (ie. actually feasable). But if skill and reaction time were all that mattered in this game, why have a RPGish leveling system? Why not have all players have access to all weapons, vech, certs and implants? Because then no one would pay $13 a month to do so. Tribes3, HL2, CS2, etc will all accomplish this without a monthly subscription. I feel the RPG element is there for more than just subscriptions, its there for an increased play value that shouldnt reward just "killing" someone, but actually defeating them as part of a team. /edit/ lol i just remember that with core combat, we will be hunting magic items.

I haven't payed much attention since the balance patch. But, if you have 2 people in a tank, who are not in a squad together, does the gunner still get all the exp for kills? Or does the driver have to get his by kissing the unlucky pedestrians with his bumper..which they have changed. Not that it really matters too much and there are more pressing issues to correct, but it doesn't seem like it would be difficult to give exp to the entire crew of the vehicle despite whos in whos squad. I know from my experiences that many times the all gun positions on a vehicle are not manned by people in my squads. Many times, I'll grab my Lib and whoever is near by will hop in and bomb or gun. Usually atleast one of us is in a squad already and often circumstances doesn't always allow me to put a squad mate in a gunners position. Since the new mods to player kills, you can rack up some experience by running down a bridge bombing everyone on it into the stone age. Especially if you take out another vehicle with 3 or 4 people in it.
Hmm.. I think I just caught myself rambling.. |

If two people in a vehicle are not squaded together, and the gunner gets all the kill,s the gunner gets All the exp. That's why squading with people who will drive/gun for you is a good idea. But sometimes that isn't always an option.
As for the kill/exp system, I don't mind it now. I hardly am ever there for those used to be 5K caps anyways. Usually I'm running around trying to stay alive/hacking towers. So now, I can get more exp for my skills. I kill seven or eight guys before I die, and I'm up by maybe 1000 exp. And that's in a squad too. So If your in a good squad, and I mean a bunch of people who play good, kill good, and can stay alive more than a one for one basis, then you'll get more exp. However, platoons do not share exp. Remember that. |
