Unhappy Vid Card Will Not Boot - HELP!

I currently have a ATI 7000 and am upgrading to a 9600 pro 256meg. I got the card last night and pulled out the old one and put in the new one, booted up but nothing! I put the old card in and it boots up again. Let me state that this is NOT a power problem, and I have not installed it in the wrong slot. There are 2 times last night i actually got into windows with the 9600 in. They only happened when I would go into the BIOS with the old card and put on best settings and shut down and put the 9600 in. That doesn't work anymore either. I'm hoping it's a BIOS problem that can be fixed with an update. My MoBo is a ECS K7S5A 1.0 I haven't seen this problem on any other message boards so please help! I really want this new card to work. If not, I have a cheep like new 9600 for sale....

That was one of the tings the ATI tech emailed me, will do first thing when I get home... but that to me would seem more of a windows problem, I can't even get to POST screen.

The driver shouldn't make a difference for posting. I would try setting your bios to default settings. Its odd, generally only the ATI cards that used external power connectors had this kind of problem. Check rage3d forums also.

UPDATE:

Flashed BIOS,
Updated MoBo Driver for AGP,
Pulled all cards out but VID,

STILL NOTHING! Sad....
Waiting for ECS to write back and ATI to respond to my reply.

Ok figured it out I think, my MoBo only supports up to 4X AGP and the 9600 and 9800s are 8X AGPs. Now my tough decision, downgrade card (I currently have a 7000 64 meg so even a 9000 128meg would be a great improvement) or upgrade the MoBo and hope all my other components work.

Also, ATI cards for some reason are the only ones I've ever seen that had these issues with 8X AGP. Technically there is no reason why you can't run an 8X AGP card in a 2x or 4x mb. It always depends on the mb manufacturer though. But generally NV cards do not have this problem so if returning the ATI card and going with a comparable NV card is an option you do stand a better chance of getting it to work.

The only NV cards I would suggest though are either the TI4600 or the new 5700 if you can find one, if you are wanting to stay in the $200 range.

Ok, then I'd say pickup a good Nforce2 board and you shouldn't have any problems.

Either the A7N8X deluxe rev2 or NF7-S rev2. Can find the Asus cheap on newegg.

It it should perform quite a bit better than your existing. They both have excellent onboard sound also. I don't even bother using my audigy. Both will support an XP1500 fine, and DDR333 ram.
