Greetings,
I had installed the 52.16 drivers the week prior to the release of Core Combat. On Sunday, the 26th I started experiencing constant lag issues and frequent lag spikes. Most annoying was when rounding corners when climbing the stairs. I would stop/stutter for a sec, I'm guessing while the area loaded. This is something I had not had a problem with before. By Tuesday I couldn't stand it anymore and reinstalled the 45.23 drivers .. boom .. I'm back in business. I'll lag in large zergs, but I'm used to that. Hate the fact I can't use the new drivers, but I do have a question. What are the suggested setting for AA/AF with Planetside? I used the manufacturer recommendations and set both to Off/Program Control. Should I change these settings or leave them as is? Here are my system specs: Windows XP Pro w/SP1 AMD 2700+ 333 FSB Soyo KT400 Dragon Ultra, AwardBIOS v6.00PG, driver KVX42AA8 Enermax 330w Dual Fan Power Supply 1GB (2x512MB) Corsair XMS Extreme, PC3200 Low Latency Matched Pair Maxtor 80GB 7200RPM 8MB (6Y080L0) Primary Master Maxtor 120GB 7200RPM (6Y120P0) Secondary Master, contains swap file Toshiba SD-M1612 DVD Rom, Primary Master Sony DRU-500A DVD RW, Secondary Master Sony CRX195E1 CD RW, Secondary Slave Asylum GeForce FX 5900 w/128MB, Bios 4.35.20.22.01, nVidia Driver v45.23 ViewSonic A90F+ Monitor, 1024x768 @ 85Hz SoundBlaster Audigy Platinum Cable Modem via Linksys WRT54G Onboard network adapter Microsoft Natural Pro Keyboard Microsoft Intellimouse Optical DirectX 9.0b Also, I have the ingame settings turned down only a couple items ticked, weather and sky being the only ones that would effect me throughout the game.

try setting AA and AF to 4x. 4x works best for me in terms of quality gained and perfomance lost (pretty much no loss). Could try it from there but the more you increase the more strain it puts on your system.
edit on a side note, try the settings outside of planetside cause well planetside is FUBAR for alot of people atm. Theres also some various fixes to the issues posted by people on the official forums. Last edited by Zatrais; 2003-11-01 at 04:56 PM. |

i never realy exparament with my AA settings, my card not powerful enough, but i know that the hight the number the lower the preformance.
It realy sucks now that my FPS when down the toilet the forceware 50's were doing wonders untill CC came out

True, but even then ATI Anti-aliasing routines are just the sexy. I'd leave them off, but then I don't care overmuch about image quality. Personally I'd leave it off just to have that much more number-crunch available for handling all the triangles in a large assault.

Well, all went well with the tests. I logged into Johari last night and *gasp* there was fighting at Baal! Yeah, the only base we Terrans had left. So, I gear up and hart in .. with the settings Zatrais suggested AA/4x & AF/4x. Things looked much clearer and I didn't notice any strain on ping or FPS. So I kicked AF to 8x and liked it even better.
Final settings wound up at AA/4x and AF/8x .. think I'll keep it this way as it improved how Auraxis looks for me. Thanks again Zatrais and Lise! Oh and Pyro .. the A90F+ is excellent! No more strain on my tired old eyes.
