Christmas is in about two months my Geforce 4 Ti4200 (64MB) is working for the current games. But recent games like Halo/Call of Duty have been studdering and that means it that time for an upgrade. I decided to wait til christmas instead of 9600XT and got 1GB of RAM instead. With the new set of chipsets comeing out this christmas what card should i look for?

Your XP2400 can handle a 9800XT just fine. Won't be as fast as a 3200 or P4 3.2, but your not totally cpu bottlenecked with it. If your ram and mb support it and you can clock your multipler down some and jump the FSB to 166-200 range you will be a world of improvement. PC2100 is pretty slow these days.
9800 Pro's are dropping nicely. I heard about a BB deal recently. 9800 Pro for $400, with $50 instant savings and $50 mail in rebate. Prices should continue to drop, especially if XT's start coming into stock. If you wait another 3 or 4 months, you can prolly wait for the r400. This will be a TOTALLY new chip and new a refresh like the xt's and 5900's, etc. This thing is supposed to turn our world upside down just like the r300 did. |
