I'm just musing here, so don't freak out and think I'm trying to ruin your game.
What if instead of Dropship Centers there were Central Command Complexes? It would be the same base (which could still produce Galaxies) but it would have a terminal that a high-level commander could access. Once accessed, the game would look a lot like StarCraft to him (the commander would see a map from the overhead view and all the little troops running around). He could then select troops and click on areas for them to attack, repair etc. A unit that received a command would hear something like "Attack this unit!" or "Repair this Turret!". Whether or not he followed that command, of course, would be up to him. There's a game called Savage that uses this template and I must say it's a pretty good game. As far as which cr5 would be able to be the continent's 'ranking official' it would probably require implementation of a voting system. I think Central Command Complex is cooler than Dropship Center, anyhow. Like I said, I am in no way advocating major changes to the game. I'm just curious how people would react to this kind of command interface. As it is, it's hard to identify a clear chain of command in PlanetSide, which doesn't add to its coolness.

AWESOME. I love this idea.
This idea r0xx0z0rz. But, instead of just one command station term, you could have many, each with their own specified uses. Ex: One could reveal all enemies and friendlies at once. Another, like you said, could be the Central Command Complex Term. There he could control in the way you said. With the extra Command Terms, the CR4s could control and relay information to the "Main Commander". Only CR4s and CR5's would have access to these terms. The CR5s of course would be able to access all of them and the CR4s would only be able to use the Support Command Terms (they would still be powerful). This way we could have a team of commanders working together. |

I, for one, would love this idea. I'm a guy who loves his coordination, and was sort of expecting it when I purchased the game, but to my dismay, the most coordination I got was, "Uh...everyone to the CC!". I realize there are some extremely well coordinated outfits out there, but it would be neat to see empire-wide strategic planning. Of course this would also depend on the said cr5's ability to ACTUALLY lead...not the number of 5k caps he/she sat in.

Interesting idea, but if it was implemented, you would have a lot of annoyed players who keep hearing, Attack this, defend that. It would soon annoy me.
I think the platoon function is a great feature, any higher command structure would need to build on this. For example the ability to combine platoons. The "field commander" can then only see the location of the the platoon commanders and squad leaders on the map and set relevant WPs, also the Field Commander has a channel that is only accessable to him, Platoon Leaders and Squad Leaders. |

Would also be cool if the SL could pull up a screen for each squad member and update different fields so the soldier can hit a key and find out exactly what his SL wants him to be doing without asking over and over.

If you think RTS overlay on a shooter is 'Savage' just wait for the myriad games along that theme that are going to get released.
