New comp

Aluminum File Server w/ 500W ATX12V PSU & Plexiglass Window (Blue)

AMD Athlon XP 2500+ 1.83GHz 333MHz/512KB Socket

Kingston 256MB DDR400 PC3200 CL2.5 DIMM

WD Caviar 80GB 7200RPM 8MB Buffer ATA/100 HDD

Samsung 52x24x52 Internal CD-RW Drive ATAPI

Sony 1.44MB 3.5" Internal Floppy Drive Black

Sound Blaster Audigy 2 6.1 Channel Sound Card

ATi RADEON 9600 PRO 128MB DDR AGP8X TVO/DVI

Microsoft MultiMedia Keyboard & Mouse Combo

I think this will do pretty good. Enough for me anyway. I'm on a low budget here.

Anyway, what do you guys think of it? And yes I do plan on upgrading to a gig of RAM later.

I'm getting the speakers and monitor at newegg.

What kind of budget are you working with? How much is this going to cost you, if you don't mind me asking. Let me see if I can't beat that price for you.

ok you need a gb of memory, get 2 512 sticks of that, 256 is the bare minumum for Windows XP(they say 128, but not so)

go to www.buyxg.com they have the best prices on every thing. That comp will be nice, the memory is the only change i would realy recomend, but you may also want to get a quieter CPU cooler

Cpl things -

Your missing a MB. The MB is the ABSOLUTE MOST IMPORTANT part of a computer. I see people spend $400 on a video card and $300 on ram and $200 on burners, buit $50 on their mb. And they wonder why in a few months they got tons of errors and everything crashes.

So first, what MB are you getting? Since you left that out and PC's have a rough time running without one.

If your going AMD route, your pretty much getting a Nforce2 MB as VIA sux ballz with that KT600A crap. So if your going NF2, get an Ultra 400 board. Preferebly the Asus A7N8X Del, Abit NF7-S, or DFI LanParty NF2.

With one of these, you really should not need the audigy 2. But thats a personal choice, you get a small performance increase with it and maybe a little better sound quality if you are listening to 256 bit mp3's or better sound files.

Do not, I repeat do not buy a 256 stick of DDR. Its going to be pretty much useless later on. You want 512 sticks believe me. So get atleast 1 512 if not 2. I would ditch the sound card and get the ram.

From BuyXG.com: (This is what im getting)
P4 2.6 800 FSB
Gig DDR 3200 Corisair Low latency
P4P800 Asus Mobo
ATI 9800XT
$1029

Just 200 over yours and MUCH better. If you replace that all with the AMD counter part you can prolly drop the price $150 which is good because if your looking for a monitor:

Viewsonic 19 inch is $199 that falls under your 1200 dollar mark if you go with AMD.
