Fun idea: Combat Journalists

This would be a 1 point certification that lets the player wield a video-camera that would take a server-side simulated picture of the battlefield and upload it to the fan sites. The last sentence uttered by the combat photographer would be used as the picture's caption, and people could become famous in-game and get interviewed before big campaigns. It would be funny to watch enemy forces go after the journalists so they wouldn't photo them post-mortem and embarass them.

I suppose off-line combat advisors (people at work) could look at these images and IM tactical suggestions to in-game commanders. Could be cool.

Just a thought.

That's actually kind of a cool idea, man. I like it a lot! You're right, it would be really sweet to get cool footage, and if your pc could support it you could even link it to a live-feed website so people could watch the battle as it unfolds.

That'd be cool, but would also cause planetside to double the subscription fee.

[edit] becasue of the extra load on their servers.

You can hook up a vcr to your computer through a cable modem probly or definitly a tv reciever an get 6 hours per 50 cent it cost to get a Tape. So could PS 8p, or some other medium that would allow you to get it back over the net. It could be new trend in gaming(or should i say a repeat of an old one thta didnt quite take off.) and make them alot of money in the long run. It would be sweet!
And there are more cost effective ways of capturing dead video footage. You dont have to get all the programing that makes the games so ram consuming just the signals to the moniter(video signal) and store something with it for dating so you can find stuff. So its not that unplausable of an idea.

Somebody, I don't recall who, posted a HUGE topic about this on the official forums, and it included everything from Handheld cameras, to camera vans, a television station in sanct, and the ability to broadcast it to the televisions in the lounge. Have a look.
