If your a reaver pilot then you probably know what im talking about. Why is it that the Reaver is described as king of the sky's when almost every time there is a fight between a mosiquto and a reaver the Mossie comes out on top? Isn't the mossie supposed to be a scout craft? Also Im a infiltrator and alot of the time i get killed by mossies. This may sound bitchy and whiney but the mossies is way to good for just a scout craft and possible revisons should be considered such as giving its cannon a recoil (another point why to 12mm Chainhuns have less recoil the 20mm RECOILESS Cannons?)

Mossies have radar so that when your an infil, they can spot you better than a reaver can. Also reaver has more armor and the rockets can pack a good punch. When I verse a mosquito in the air I normally shot at him with my machine gun, but once he stays stationary or relativly stationary, that's when I unload my rockets onto him. Or I try and sneak up on them from behind so they don't see me and then blast them with rockets. Same goes for enemy reavers.
Edit: To Scarecrowe's recent post and he beat me to it: lol and especially when you can outrun your own rockets...

Indeed
When I play my alt character and fly her Mosquito around, I can't tell you how many noobs are out there who will shoot missiles at you as you're flying toward them. All it takes is a change in altitude and you easily dodge the missiles, apply brakes, turn and you're on the Reavers 6. Stick on him like glue and it's an easy kill (unless he chickens out and ejects). The only time I've been beaten is when it's a 3 on 1 situation with one of the enemy being a Mosquito. Then it truly is whoever sees the other one first is the winner.

Reaver has 20mm which can chew through a mossie quite fast. It's just hard to get a mosq in front of you and not behind you.
Don't move when a mosq is around. It gives radar capability meaning everyone in the area can see all the little red dots on their radar (just like interlink), and if you're an infil it puts your name above you so that you become a lot more visible. It won't do this if you don't move though.

Well of course the rockets are for ground targets, but they are also the only way to take down a galaxy in under 5 minutes.
Maybe I should have said: More firepower, more armor. Reavers clearly dominate ground targets, and in my experience (I could be a crappy pilot though...) I win about half of the dogfights I get into. Because of this, I would hand the crown to the reaver for being more versatile. I'm not saying I like those odds in a dogfight, which is why I usually go after ground targets if I have a skeeter on my tail, cause I'm more likely to snag at least another kill or two by the time he wears down my armor. In a perfect world, I'd be able to control my Reaver properly, look over my shoulder and perform evasive maneuvers. If I had anything close to realistic controls there would be a lot of dead mosquito pilots out there. |

Engaging in a dogfight with a mosquito is silly, as it simply outperforms the reaver with regards to maneuverability. To fight a mosquito, just come to a full stop and track him with your guns. You will win everytime. Don't try to run, or outfly him.

I was a reaver pilot from release till about mid September. I honed my skills to the point where I could easily defeat any aircraft, reaver or mossie. Granted mossie was a tad harder, but we had a competition in 7th Legion. Everyone with air vehicles did 1 on 1 dogfights and we did a tournament. First match it was against another reaver. He did not even land a single shot on me. Second match was against a mosq. He got me down to like 1/4 or 1/3 but I was still able to beat him. 3rd match another reaver. Took me a while but i killed him. Finals was against a mosq. We hit each other quite a bit, but he got behind me, so I had to go evasive into a forest. He hit a tree, but didnt die and he got me to where i had to weave. In short i flew out and he shot me down. I bailed and hit him with a striker missile killing him.
Being good with a reaver in a dogfight is all about using strategy. Your handling is worse, as is your speed. However, your machine gun is better, so try to score initial hits and if he gets on your 6, hopefully if your good at maneuvering you can lead him thru a forest and either lose him, get behind him or make him crash. |
