I played for 2 or 3 months shortly after the game came out. I had a lot of fun but then moved on I guess because I felt I had done everything enough to satisfy me.
I have a few questions if anyone would care to answer. 1 Is cheating a big problem now? It exsisted when I lft but wasnt too bad. Is it worse now? 2 Do I have to get the exspansion to find people to play with? 3 Overall is the game more or less fun now than when it came out?

Cheating isnt bad imo - you don't need the expansion still plenty of battles on the surface.
Personally I think the game is 90% better than it was at release, the balance patch changes along with a variety of other things have made the game much more fun for me. |

PlanetSide is a good measure of the online community. Apparently, a lot of PC gamers are hopeless neophiles and despite the superiority and quality of a game, they must move to a new game as quickly as possible.
That said, there are also a lot of dedicated PS players and it's not at all difficult to find a good outfit and some fun battles. I'd say PlanetSide is a full success, although some people forget how young it is and how much more we have to look forward to. Also, good call on reading PSU. If you're going to find good players, this is the place to look.

From my experience, the happy people (90%) are here or in the game, and the un-happy people are on the PS forums.

I am pretty new to PS (a bit over a week), and I stayed away from trying it out for a long time due to the rumors of bugs and lag and whatnot, but am glad that I decided to bite the bullet (all too literally, most of the time) and give it a try.
Don't have the Core Combat expansion at the moment, but have had NO trouble at all finding plenty of people to team up with - the surface world is a crowded place and full of really good and helpful players. Also have not really seen any cheating problems - certainly not in the class of CounterStrike, which I stopped playing eventually because of the cheating epidemic. You can always try the trial out again (if you can suck down the day-long download) |

Core Combat adds a tiny amount to the game. I don't have it and I really don't see any point in getting it. I'd hardly ever be able to acquire any of the new weapons or vehicles due to the conditions that need to be met to get them, and the caverns are usually far less active than the surface (during the 7 day free expansion trial they were, anyway). Wait until you can pick up the expansion for $10 somewhere and then spend money on it. Until then, you're just wasting your money.

Come back, it's great. I quit for about a month or two. I just uninstalled FFXI and jumped back in. This is seriously my favorite game and it keeps getting better.
Wish my FPS was better though.
