Just got back from a press screening of the first 2 hours of the new mini series.
Gotta say it's not that bad. Here's a bit about the Characters. The chick Cylon is HOT and very good at being bad The robo cylons that you see are bad ass (but you don't get to see enough of them!) Starbuck is dead on... seriously Dirk Benedict with tits. Apolo is a whiney bitch and I wish he'd die... but you really see him nut up as his balls drop in the middle of the eppisode. Boomer is ok... not great, but haven't seen enough of her to really call it Adoma (edward James Olmos) is pretty good. He plays pissed or emotionaly distant most of the time and it works pretty well. Tak (the XO) is really good. Probably the best Character so far. Baltar is wonderfully self centered and evil... gotta love him! As to the story... well... they make a few of the basic mistakes that you see on tv movies... primarily they are trying to give the characters too much angst up front. Isn't the fact that their homes are getting wipped out enough? But all in all this will potentialy work out if they make it a weekly show. The shop design is awesome. Still paying hommage to the old show while taking it to a logical next step. The cylons finally have figured out that they're robots, they don't have to pilot the ships, they can build the ships to pilot themselves. There are some really interesting technology things going on that I won't go into detail here about. But in a theatre with about 100 people I heard no loud vocal complaints (other then until things start dieing it's kinda borring) and the 5 people I was with all enjoyed it. So as a recomendation I say watch it when it's on in a week (a week from monday to be exact) You may be surprised. They pay hommage, and don't soil the orriginal show, while telling a new and unique story. PAX Pilgrim

The gun katas. Through analysis of thousands of recorded gunfights, the Cleric has determined that the geometric distribution of antagonists in any gun battle is a statistically predictable element. The gun kata treats the gun as a total weapon, each fluid position representing a maximum kill zone, inflicting maximum damage on the maximum number of opponents while keeping the defender clear of the statistically traditional trajectories of return fire. By the rote mastery of this art, your firing efficiency will rise by no less than 120%. The difference of a 63% increase to lethal proficiency makes the master of the gun katas an adversary not to be taken lightly. |

Damn kids not knowing what Battlestar Galactica is!
BSG was a show that was on for 2 years WAY back in what... 78 something like that. IT was trying to capitalize on the Star Wars craze. CBS canceled it after 2 seasons at 24 episodes (available now in a boxset) In base it's about a space farring air craft carrier/battle ship and the adventures the pilots and crew get into while trying to run away from the Cylons... a race that is trying (and doing a pretty good job of) destroying all humanity. That's it is a nutshell And never EVER watch Galactica 84 I could have shit a better tv series.

BG was a phenomenal show. I loved watching it when I was a kid. If memory serves me correct it was on Sunday nights.
Essentially humans from another galaxy created the Cylons. The Cylons became more powerful and destroyed the human civilization. All that was left was one fleet of various ships and the Battlestar Galatica. The BG is the only military ship in the fleet and all of the ships had fled their planet. They are now searching for a planet that is supposed to have humans on it. It is apparent that they are looking for earth. The series is about the Cylons chasing them and trying to destroy the fleet. The Cylons also have bases spread out throughout the galaxy. Settlements are found of humans throughout the galaxy, but none of them are the planet they are looking for. Eventually they get to earth, and low and behold it earth of the late 70s. Phenomenal show, sorta campy but for those days - great. Right around the time of Dukes of Hazard. |

Sure It's that the woman they have playing Starbuck captures the Attitude and manerisms. From the occasional Frack to playing Pyramids with the other pilots while smoking a cigar. It's the starbuck character with a little bit more vulnerability because instead of being a womanizing jag-off... it's a woman. She comes off tough and bitchy while still sympathetic. Where everyone else is the heart of BSG Starbuck was always the boot that got broken off in Cylon ass. The woman version makes it work! PAX

OMG, you should be shot for the comment about the new "stardoe" she can die. Seriously.
This is not BSG, this is Sex and the City meets BH90210 in space. The cylons, human looking/made and require sex... oh yeah, that sure feels like BSG to me... I would do a rolling eyes smilie but it doesn't even warrent that. Ronald D. Moore, writter of this abominiation is a former Star Trek Writter, as you can see from the Six of Twelve Character, he is an unoriginal repeating stemaing splotch of donkey cum sitting on a pile of dried up elephant shit. Love the new Boomer, yeah, asian female cylon spy that can't fly worth a shit. How about the upcomming Stardoe and Apollo wedding, thats being saved for a ratings go getter.... If they removed EACH and EVERY refference to BSG, altered the story line some, and re-did it as anoriginal show, maybe I would watch. Until then, they can just all die. I support the Glen Larson/DeSanto continuation Big SCreen/series. Anyone that would watch the Sci-Fi Channel needs only know one thing, the CEO of programming, one each Bonnie Hammer, is formerly of the lifetime network, and has been quoted as saying she is trying to take the Sci-Fi channel away from Science Fiction... Go figure.

Looks like Vic is abit bitter
Have you seen it yet? Just wondering, you make some pretty big assumptions. I can't counter any of them but I can say that Cylons don't need sex, they just seem to dig it! And while I had problems with it as well as the next fan boi of the old series... it really is a redemption from what I expected. I expected to leave pissed... instead I left wanting to see the second half. That's a big leap for me. Of course I would totaly agree with the statement that if they shed all the other names and made it an original sci-fi series it would have been better... but that being said this is not a bad effort. And who the hell would want to see Colonials on western world again (although Apolo outdrawing old one eye is pretty damn kewl) This is an updated and interesting look at an old story. I liked it to enough of a point that it wasn't a waste of my time to watch it. SO I still advise everyone to at least watch it. Judge for yourself, but with the complete shlep that is on TV now for Sci-fi (don't even get me started on Enterprise... or Star Daweson as I like to call it) something like this show would be welcome.
