At first I thought there were more galaxies around than before, but to be honest I think thats just wishful thinking. To increase the number of galaxies I think the following would go a long way.
Make the HART only drop people inside a friendly SOI (spehere of influence), or within a certain radius of a "Drop Beacon" which can be placed by any CR1 squad leader. You can still get to the battle, or to whichever base your team owns, but you can't do annoying ghost hacks or drop at remote tower and hack it. Also, if you need to get to your squad quickly, for example if you crashed or just logged on, your commander can activate a drop beacon which allows you to drop within a certain radius near him. Allow the galaxy infinite afterburners on locked conintents and the sanc Traveling through locked continents from the sanc is a pain. Its either that or use the HART to drop to the nearest DS center to the front line, which makes alot of people think "why not just HART straight in." There's rarley more than a couple of people on a locked continent, apart from when a whole zerg arives though a warpgate. Zergs usualy hit so hard its not long before the continent is unlocked, so infinite galaxy afterburners are of little consequence in that situation. They would however, make the gal a much more viable method of transport. Galaxy landing pads at the sanctuary. Galaxies tend to just jumble about at the sanc. I'd like to see some landing pads. Just a little bit of textured ground to indicate "land here" People wont HAVE to land there, but it will make things look better if they do. AutoLand And here's the biggest change. What makes a gal unatractive to pilot? It tends to be boring. You can't shoot, you tend to have to leave the enemy SOI before you are shot down, and bailing out with your buddies wastes a galaxy you could probably use. What I suggest is that the game make use of the autoland feature. Its there already. If a pilot goes LD, the aircraft will do it's best to land. It does it pretty well. I think a pilot should be able to set an "autoland" point. They set a point on the map, using the same interface as the HART drop, and if they press vehicle special feature the galaxy will atuomaticaly eject everyone. Including the pilot. Then, the galaxy does it's best to land as near to the selected point that is valid. This feature would probably only be usable if you achieve 350m in height, and if there is no vehicle in the back bay. This way, the pilot can jump down into the action with his mates, the galaxy flies off, and the pilot can run off and find it later. The minimal AI used in such an event is unlikley to cause undue load to the servers. Pilots wont HAVE to use this feature, but its there for them to use if they want.

The drop beacon idea is good. I see it like calling in an orbital strike - you get the radius on the map relative to where you are, and mark it. I also like the landing pad idea (which could be extended to DSCs on continents, too).
I don't think that the Galaxy needs an infinite afterburner capacitor in empire-controlled areas. The ride is much quicker than walking. Nor does a Galaxy need to land itself - there are other things a Galaxy pilot can do it he or she is bored, like crash it into snipers (you did remember to bind, didn't you?) or pick up others to support your cause. |
